If you were GM and had someone who could be the GQBOAT....

Thank you, but how dare you use common sense! We are going defense. We are set on offense, with our 32 year old LT, overpaid/average LG, Question mark at RG, and our RT who averages 4 games per season. Cam is totally safe. How dare you suggest that we keep Cam healthy because he is our only chance to win, even after Cameron Jordan looked like Reggie White in week 17 and nearly killed Cam repeatedly. Our defense was bad, so we must focus every resource on the defense, even though three starters were on IR and 50% of the front 4 players were rookies. Silly Zod. You don't seem to understand football if you think protecting your all pro, franchise QB should be prioritized--I mean, we drafted Zack Williams and Lee Ziemba last year! Who needs a top offensive line? The Saints win and their line sucks--I mean, 2 of them did not even start in the pro bowl!! Scrubs.

lighten up francis

no you're just being silly and over-reactive.

i guess that's the norm around here. you've got to take arguments to their most absurd extreme so you sound more rational/logical.

meh...waste of time.

the premise of this thread and basically anybody who's pro-offensive line in the first round is hilarious

basically if you get sacked behind the line of scrimmage if a defensive player so much as blows air on you the wrong way it's a 15 yard penalty, but when you scramble out and start running the ball you're fair game for a tackle, you basically become another ball carrier, but people are not worried about this. They're worried about Cam getting hurt when he's sacked instead lol

some act like Cam is Peyton Manning. You need a good OL.....don't need an allstar OL. Why? B/c Cam Newton isn't going to sit in the pocket and make throws all day.......and you wouldn't want him to have that type protection. You want Cam to move.

I think the Op was implying draft and implying a high pick. FA is not really in the conversation here. What FA OLinemen have even been mentioned on this board much less this thread?

Let's not muddy the waters Mr. Scot. Most people here are already challenged enough.

It may not be in the original post, but it should be. Honestly, any offseason discussion needs to involve both.

I'm not convinced that Jeff Otah will ever return to form. Nor am I certain we have a good enough right guard to go against playoff level defenses. If we really want to be contenders, both of those situations need to be solved (one way or the other).

It is 100% accurate that their are doubts on both lines. The question here is focus. Yes, let's focus on all of it. But to simplify it, which OP attempted with the proclamation of Cam being the GQBOAT, is what this thread is about. And to me and most people I consider rational thinking fans, defense has to be the focus.

Will we need O line help and possibly some other wideout or a scat back if one becomes available? Sure. But at this point, based on what we know now as far as who is going to be available and what our needs are, we should be looking very hard for DT and/or DE IMHO.

Wouldn't your first offseason priority be protecting him on the field?

It would mine.

I see us going OL early and often.

That would depend, IMO. Certainly, I would focus on getting quality OLmen, but I would also consider that I have one of the most mobile QBOAT behind center and as such would want to make sure I have players for him to get the ball to when he gets flushed out of the pocket or bootlegs.

It makes points. I will be more direct and include illustrations next time. Illustrations means "pictures".

Worth remembering in this discussion that mobile quarterbacks actually tend to get hit / sacked / injured at a higher rate than pocket passers.

The notion that you don't need a quality offensive line if you have a mobile QB is a false premise. I can't think of a single team that's followed that formula and won a Super Bowl.
