If you were GM and had someone who could be the GQBOAT....

I'm not denying that Cam had a great rookie year, but saying GOAT is ridiculous.

Thread clearly says someone who COULD be.....

I think the rookie who essentially rewrote the record book would qualify as someone who COULD be.....

It ain't like we are talkin Clausen/Gabbert up in here.

Even considering that Newton is the GOAT or could be the GOAT is jumping the gun.

Anyone could be the GOAT.

Clausen could get traded and throw for 7K for 10 straight seasons and become the GOAT. Too soon.

No, anyone couldn't be.....

Cam could be strictly from a raw physical skill set perspective and what he did as a rookie in what was essentially a handicapped season (no offseason).

Odds are going to be against him but you can entertain the idea with him.......not a Clausen/Gabbert

Okay,

Gabbert showed the ability to make big throws in a handicapped season surrounded by no talent after being thrown into the fire when he was supposed to sit a year.

I just did.

And look, I know Gabbert won't ever be the GOAT, but the odds are slim for Newton as well, and even saying the word GOAT and Newton in the same sentence is extremely premature. It'd be sweet if Newton turned out to be the GOAT, but cmon, let's not be homers.

This draft is ass deep in Olineman, especially Ts. If we were to pick one with our first pick it could realistically be the third OT available. Even so it's not really a bold prediction, chances are there will be Olineman BPA when we pick before a CB for example.

I agree, Oline will be #1 pick.

DeCastro would be an interesting pick IMO. Not only is he the best G available this year a lot of scouts are calling him the best G prospect in years. Reiff though is going to be an elite T in this league as well. Who knows this decision might be solved for us by someone like Claiborne falling to us or both these guys already being drafted.

All I know is this, we found our Franchise QB now we need to get him some OL help. If you think he was special with this year imagine if he could get another second or 2 to allow guys to get open deep. As well as if you want to keep our O a powerhouse you better keep that QB of ours upright and off the injury list.

real quick the composition of the top 5 offensive lines in pass pro last year... I'll bold the ones that were first round picks

Buffalo - LT-7th round pick/4th round pick : LG-2nd round pick : C-3rd round pick : RG-3rd round pick : RT-Undrafted

Tennessee - LT-2nd round pick : LG-4th round pick : C-7th round pick : RG-5th round pick : RT-4th round pick

New Orleans - LT-4th round pick : LG-5th round pick : C-Undrafted/3rd round pick : RG-4th round pick : RT-2nd round pick/7th round pick

Cincinnati - LT-2nd round pick : LG-Undrafted : C-Undrafted : RG-2nd round pick : RT-1st round pick

Oakland - LT-3rd round pick : LG-2nd round pick : C-2nd round pick : RG-4th round pick : 2nd round pick

The Panthers have more first round picks on the roster that play offensive line than these teams had. ...there were more undrafted players starting on those lines than first round picks

Panther fan logic says: We need to spend every early pick on the line the next three years, while we ignore the vacuous drain of talent at DT for another year, and lets not worry one bit about when Cam scrambles past the LOS where he's most likely to get hurt.

Starting guards are routinely found in rounds 3 and lower. 8/9 is too high for a guard, no matter how good DeCastro is.

The majority of our starters on O are either pro bowlers or former 1st round picks. It's time to inject some talent on D.

Edit: Raging Bull was faster with a similar thought. Hat tip and pie.

Yeah, that's why I pointed out the Panthers currently have 2 #1s and a 2nd on the O line early in this thread.

It would be interesting to look at the Olines protecting the "best" QBs in the league.

Breesus, Eli, Rodgers, Ben, etc.

honestly those QBs help make those lines as good as they are, especially buffalo. At some point in the season Fitzpatrick got rid of the ball an average of 1.5 seconds after the snap.

as Cam gets better going through his reads the line will in turn give up less sacks. Yes we can do better than Byron Bell but lets wait until the middle rounds because our defense needs some real talent infusion.
