Not trying to get into a pissing match with you and going to give you some rep to prove it. Damn I know you like him and are obviously offended by the fact that we dont share the same opinion on him but no need to get bent out of shape over it.

Here's some reasons why I don't like him with the 8th/9th pick.

1.Gil Brandt and Mike Mayock both have him ranked the 3rd best DT in the draft.

2.NFL scouts told Brockers himself he projects as a late 1st round pick to early 2nd, not top 10.

3.Only Scouts Inc. has him as the best DT, from any reputable source I can find but they also have Luke Kuechly rated above him so who knows what their thinking.

4.I doubt he will realize his full potential as quickly as others that we can draft that high.

i'm not offended. just because you get offended when people dis your pick of jeffery doesn't mean that other people get the same way.

i don't care how you feel about him. i just thought this discussion had been done over and over and over and didn't really need another thread or another place to rehash the same old arguments.

i bumped up a couple threads to help you out.

as far as what those talking head analysts said...try thinking for yourself.

they all get things wrong. don't look at what the "experts" say and take it as gospel. watch game tape. read and listen to what coaches and teammates say. do your own research. formulate an opinion.

I have no problem with taking players and developing them like we did with Charles Johnson and James Anderson. I just don't want to use a top 10 pick on a project
then we shouldn't have drafted cam or...well...any player coming out of college.

If I was offended I would not have offered the good will rep to you.

The fact that I have supported Jeffery as much as you have Brockers proves I have no fear of formulating my own opinion

I dont take what the experts say for gospel. If I did I would not think Jeffery is worthy of being a top 10 pick this year.Nor would I have supported the Cam bandwagon 100% after Luck went back to school and I did my own research and anaylisis on Cam.

I wanted Cam to start from day 1 before we even drafted him. I never viewed him as a long term project. I was one of the biggest supporters of drafting Cam and having him start day one and that is well documented if you go back and look.

Of course every player is going to need to learn and adjust to the nfl but some need more time than others. Thats why they call some guys pro ready and some guys they call projects.

Three years ago he was a 6'6", 255 pound linebacker. Last year he was one of the most dominant defensive tackles in the country. That kind of growth rate is extraordinary, and it shows a will to work and give consistent effort. His physical tools are incredibly rare, and when you've got elite talent with a great work ethic, that's a pretty great combination. He's an athletic freak that fills an area of need. I know that the scouts don't like him yet, but the scouts probably haven't gotten to the tape of very many redshirt sophomores yet, especially while the Senior Bowl is taking so much attention. I think that he's going to blow up after his measurements come in at the combine.

^^^^winner.

fantastic and concise explanation.

you see his obvious talent and realize that this guy is relatively new at the position and how effective he was and it's hard not to be blown away.

you recognize that he has elite potential, a motor that just keeps going and wears out the guys on the oline he's facing, you see the drive to be great and the work ethic he has and you jump on it.

simple and plain.

people that look at him and don't like him only see him as he is right now and make the mistake of thinking that this is what you will be getting. people that like him see him as he is and realize that this is the floor, that this is only the tip of the enormous iceburg.

I think those initial rankings and pre-draft projections sound reasonable at first blush, but not so much when you look deeper. The problem with the rankings on Brocker now (and this includes the NFL guys who advised him of where he would likely be picked) is that nobody expected him to turn pro, so nobody truly evaluated him as a potential draft pick this year. Most of what you see now are his pre-season evaluations. When scouts watched LSU, they were focusing on the players that were most likely to be in the draft or at least contemplating entering, and Brockers wasn't one of those guys...his entry was a total surprise to pretty much everyone.

Also, the thing is that everyone who has looked at him since he declared has come away super impressed. But the biggest thing we, as fans, need to be is patient and wait for more current evaluations to come out.

And to my point about him not being properly evaluated by most, even a lot of the big time prospects haven't been evaluated enough to get a good feel of their strengths, weaknesses, and how they'll adapt to the NFL. Heck, Mayock even said that he has only seen tape of one game on RGIII, and isn't ready to give an evaluation. So imagine the work that has yet to take place on a prospect that nobody expected to be in the draft.

Wes Bunting has him as his #5 prospect OVERALL.

I am not a fan of him either, I think his 6'6" frame and high pad level will make him extremely easy to block, but DT is one of the hardest positions to come in and make an impact right away. I am not talking about the pro bowl, but we need a guy at 8/9 that starts for us, and contributes every snap... I do not know who that guy is.. and it may be Brockers.. I do trust our staff to choose a guy who fits that bill regardless of side of the ball or need.

I agree his pad level is too high right now. But that's really the only thing you can knock him for, and that's a GREAT thing. "High pad level" should be one of the easiest thing to coach up for a DT. His motor and strength and size just can't be taught, pad level should be easy to fix.
