I imagine that if they were going to make a change this big they would have had a press conference and make a big deal out of it... not let the new logo unveiling be on a pair of gloves with not so much as a whisper to the media...

Nike did, not the Panthers organization. I think they were wrong for either jumping the gun and leaking something that isn't announced or finalized yet, or they are just doing something to create a stir for publicity. Nike is pretty good at marketing. A logo change comes from the organization and has to be approved by the league... it's not a decision made by an outside company.

I doubt this is a new logo... probably just something Nike did to create public interest... and I believe it has been said in another thread that there is no plan to change the current logo (I don't see JR going for something new and hip, either)... but, I can't stand a few of the changes in this concept everyone is talking about (mostly the jawline and the eye areas), so I decided to make a hybrid of the new concept and the original logo. If it were something like this, I wouldn't be upset, but I stand by the original 1995 logo.

Nike makes apparel for the league, it has no official control over organizational corporate identities, trademarks or branding. So, they can't make something and say to JR Here, this is your new logo. So, if it is legit, it was leaked before any press conference or official unveiling by the Panthers organization. There is no way that any company/organization would change it's branding without making a public statement acknowledging so.

If we get black helmets, I would hope that the black would be the matte black like the Nike college helmets (i.e., Stanford, Oregon, etc.) Those helmets are effin' sweet.

The black helmet/blue mask actually looks great. It's the best imo.

I have a feeling if jerseys are updated they'll be tweaked like the logo, not remodeled.
