This story was broke by an Auburn alumnus who knew Cecil personally and spoke to him directly, and the NCAA investigators confirmed that Cecil admitted the same to them. Cecil has never publicly denied he held the talks, which is standard operating procedure even when guilty.

This is exactly the problem with these stories and how the national media botches these stories.

There were discussions of money. What hasn't been determined is who solicited who.

Because what I have heard is that the booster from Mississippi State approached Cecil Newton with an offer, not Cecil Newton peddling his son for money the way it has been portrayed.

I read that story. Don't see anything in there that stated Cecil initiated the money deal. And, honestly, that story reads like anyone could have spoken to the newsman and stated that. Those unnamed sourced are questionable, IMO.

BTW, Cecil did speak to ESPN when the story first broke. He said it was news to him that he received any money for Cam when asked by one of the ESPN guys. He said that Kenny offered him money but no transaction ever took place. Right back where the story began.

As I stated before ESPN wanted a story. So they made one up complete with Cam's father being the villian and demanding money for his son and Cam knowing his father's dirty doing.

I caught wind of the story towards the end and went back and read many of the articles that were out on it, and even I was like...this is clearly a witch-hunt against Auburn. This kid's father is being painted as a villian because the media wanted to bring shame to Auburn because of what Cam was doing for the school. And since the Reggie Bush story was still fresh in many people's mind, it made sense.

I suspected that if the story was told as it really was, Cecil was offered the money, then the incident sounds isolated. But if they spin the story to be more like Cecil was using this agent to secure money for his kid and he ended up at Auburn, then Auburn must have paid for him.

everyone we draft needs to have this mindset.

if they don't come hard every opportunity they get, if they don't want to be the best and expect great things for themselves and the team that they play for, i don't want them.
