If Peppers doesnt sign prior to DRAFT..

If Peppers doesnt sign his tender prior to the draft which is next week wouldnt we then presume that the Panthers cant trade him during the draft. That would basically make clear to me that we will not be trading him for one of this years picks.

Am i wrong, or can Peppers and his agent work out a deal during the draft and have him sign his tender allowing the Panthers to negotiate all within a set time period thats not all that long? I dont forsee that, but i wouldnt rule it out..the first round is longggggggg...

I guess im holding my breath waiting to see peppers sign any day now..

Peppers hasn't signed his paperwork yet, so no one can do anything... doesn't that kinda mean Pep doesn't have a job?

I still doing get that. If he's not signed with us, and he's not gone anywhere else..

Franchise tag or not... if he's not signed anything, nothing has actually changed right?

He's still 'free' to do what he wants... the Panthers can't do anything about it... but, because he's not signed, no one can approach him either?

The longer this has gone on, the more I wonder if someone doesn't know something about the process.

A non-exclusive franchise player may negotiate with other NFL teams, but if he signs an offer sheet from another team, the original team has a right to match the terms of that offer, or if it does not match the offer and thus loses the player, is entitled to receive two first-round draft picks as compensation.

Now, that all banks on the tendered franchise player actually signing his offer sheet with his original team first.

Like I have said all along, we hold the leverage. Julius knows how bad we want him to remain a Panther.

He is faced with the dilemma of signing the tender and being guaranteed that any offer he accepts elsewhere that does not involve adequate compensation for us will be matched and he will remain a Panther..

OR

...not signing the tender, taking a year off football, coming back as a 30 year old "off of the street" Free Agent a year after leaving the football field and a team that was loyal to him from the beginning of his career, and having the pick of his team...

Now then, if you are an athlete who's heart, loyalty, motor, and motivation has been questioned since you came into the league, which of those options makes the best statement to potential employers?

Its called having a agent that thinks he knows everything but really he is just pulling poo out of his arse and hoping it sticks.

IF........he chooses to sit out, are we still on the hook to pay him the 17 mil, and will it still count against us even if he doesn't play?

Is that how it is, or would we get some relief on the matter? I mean if he isn't playing, he isn't getting paid, right?

How does that work?

The point of thsi thread isnt if he doesnt sign...its that the Panthers cannot trade Peppers during the draft if he doesnt sign his tender this week. So what im asking is if im wrong to assume that..or is it a remote possibilty that he can sign and trade within the little time you have before picks in the first round..

Peppers has until July something to sign the tender and play for us next season for the $17 mil... If he sits out of football completely, if I am not mistaken, we don't have to pay him anything...

Also, I wanted to add this to show that Peppers is finding out he isn't worth what he thinks he is to most teams he wants to play for...

The Steelers have no interest according to defensive line coach John Mitchell, “We have the 32nd pick in the draft,” he says, “and we wouldn’t take him.”

If he really wanted to leave town so bad, he'd sign his tender... and if Carl Carey knew anything about good business practice, he would advise his client of this...

If he doesn't sign he doesn't get paid. The thing about him is that he doesn't need this year for accrued FA time so he could theoretically "afford" to sit out the whole year.

Ok, no play, no pay, get that part.

Does that free up the 17 mil for us to use, or does it STILL count against our cap?

Sorry for being so uninformed about this stuff.

He and Carey could bring the deal to the table as the team wanting to trade is on the clock... However, think of it as you being that team on the clock (especially with less time in each round now).. Would you risk missing out on your draft pick because the Panthers want to look over the terms of a trade?... You could potentially drop a few spots in the draft while you waited for us to accept...

If Peppers doesn't sign the tender by Draft Saturday morning, you can pretty much bet that he won't be traded during the draft.

Don't worry though, I'm hearing we'll be making a move into the first round (no, that doesn't really mean it will involve Pep)...
