Realistic but unlikely best-case-scenario Panthers draft

Morris Claiborne would be such a steal. He's a no brainer at #8 - - if we get that pick. I wonder if Miami will consider trading up to get a QB as well.

What QB would they trade up for? RGIII? Everyone has Washington at #6 trading up--I think that will not happen because:

A STORY

Cleveland will simply say, "Here-take our 2 first rounders."

Washington then says, "But we can offer you a first rounder in 2013!"

St. Louis says, "You cannot offer us picks THIS year? Besides, where will you be drafting in 2013?"

Cleveland and St. Louis laugh. St. Louis shakes Cleveland's hand, and take the two first rounders in exchange for the #2 pick.

Cleveland starts printing RGIII T-shirts. Washington calls the Colts and Packers (assuming they did not do this before the draft).

1) Colts take Luck as expected

2) Redskins trade with the Rams, moving up to take RGIII

3) Vikings - Matt Kalil

4) Browns - Justin Blackmon

5) Bucs - Trent Richardson

6) Rams - Riley Reiff

7) Jaguars - Quinton Coples

8) Panthers - Morris Claiborne

Coples off the board in the top 10, the next DE taken is Melvin Ingram at #20 to the Titans.

The Panthers then package their 2nd rounder plus a mid round pick (maybe throw in Jimmy Clausen to sweeten the deal) and trade with the Patriots

Moving up to 27th overall the Panthers select Whitney Mercilus

after that just go BPA and make sure you get a kicker and punter in the 6th/7th to replace the dumbfugs we have now and you're golden

Our 2nd rounder and a mid round pick does not equal the 27th overall selection. Do you not remember us trading our 2nd round pick plus next years 1st round selection to move back into the 1st round? Some peoples draft pick value perception are so skewed. Would never happen. Also, Belicheck would have no use for Clausen.. that would not sweeten the deal.. it would sour the deal.

Yeah, the Pats have Mallet, and he fits their system better. We ruined Clausen. A second round rookie starting behind 3 reserve OL with 2 rookie WRs. He never had a chance.

Had he started in a place like Green Bay and was given a year on the bench, it might have been a lot different.

For us to move up from 41 or so to 27, it would take the rest of our draft or a third rounder.

MH sucks at trading up, if you ask me (Otah, E. Brown, A. Edwards), but we have done fairly well trading down.

completely unrealistic but a better scenario, imo.

trade w/ bengals to get their 2 firsts.

trade clausen and connor for someone's 3rd. (maybe the seahawks...i don't really care. just find a dumb team to do it)

pick up jared gaither (OT), antonio garay (DT), and steve gregory (S & ST ace) from chargers. pick up connor barth to replace mare. (none of these FAs should be all that expensive and all would help. gaither is the only one who might cost a pretty penny but a history of back problems might make him a bit affordable)

first round pick up janoris jenkins and either brockers or poe.

2nd round zack brown or lavonte david (thomas davis 2.0)

3rd round george iloka (FS/SS)

4th round joe adams (wr/pr)

5th round chris rainey (scatback/WR/KR/punt blocker extraordinaire)

6th round mitchell schwartz (OT/OG)

7th round ryan miller (OG/OT)

udfa brad nortman (punter w/ killer hang time)

Dan Connor is a Free Agent, and is not a Panther right now. We can not trade him.

If the Rams trade and the Vikings go Kalil as I expect I'll be crossing my fingers when the Bucs are on the clock. Even if we lose the coinflip and pick 9th I don't see any other team taking Claiborne in that scenario other than the Bucs.

damn you tampa bay, do something stupid, it's what you're good at!

BTW I did say in the title even that this was "unlikely"

Just because the other teams don't have a perceived need at CB doesn't exclude them from taking Claiborne. He'll likely be the BPA on several boards.

I'd love to have him, I just don't see it happening without us trading up, which I do not want to do.
