Coples at Senior Bowl

From everything I've seen/read/heard, Coples is a beast. BUT, I think we may need to look elsewhere.

Although I would hate to pass up on a guy with Peppers-like ability, I think one of our problems historically that has led to our inconsistency over the years has been stacking talent at a few specific positions and ignoring others.

For instance, since Stephen Davis, we've had a pretty good stable of RBs but neglected WR every year.

Defensive line has always seemed like an area we constantly draft for but the secondary has suffered over the long term.

If we take him I would love it, but at the same time, I still think Hardy has a lot of potential. Coples size/speed combo is hard to pass up though.

Try to follow along here.

He said that anyone who questions Coples' motor is stupid.

I posted a link that said that scouts questioned Coples' motor.

Therefore, he is saying that scouts are stupid.

I think you look stupid right now. What scout wouldn't question his motor or the motor of any ******* player they are set to evaluate during the senior bowl? It's a pretty general statement moron. Not the condemnation you are presenting it as

again, nice try rook

I really want a CB first. I just don't know who. I was so-so on Dre, the Junior from Bama until he got busted with the weed. I don't are about the weed but I think JR does so if you eliminate him just for argument's sake and then look at BPA (defense) I see Coples. Not sold on him yet but he is living up to the hype so far in spite of all the haters and people hoping to see him fall.

Sigh.

"Questioning" his motor does not simply mean "evaluating" his motor. If that was the case then why would they mention it at all? It means that they have a reason to doubt his motor. It's not a general statement at all. They don't just make general statements like that.

They mention it GameCock because he did not lead the nation in sacks and be an all world DE, top three draft pick like all the same evaluators predicted he would before his senior year. They are questioning the pressure that they put on him to begin with.

You put way too much stock in the media.

Coples struggled today.

From the 1 on 1's I saw, he only got stood up once or twice today, the rest of the time he flatly abused his guy even though he was being held horribly.

Combine that with how he looked on day one and he's looking real good so far. I also saw him make a few nice plays against the run in the full scrim.

Day 1 thoughts.

Answering question's about his senior year, about moving from LE to DT to RE in three years.

You're making this a much different argument than what it was intended to be. I simply said that scouts questioned his motor. Never put my thoughts into it.

OK, you made your point. cool story bro

and btw you argue like a woman. get called out on a comment you made and the intent you clearly had when you made it and then backpedal with your hands in the air taking the high road. that's hot

No one is disputing his performance yesterday. You will have a difficult time finding people who agree with you on his performance today.

You're starting to sound ridiculous. My point was that scouts questioned his motor. I provided evidence. You called me out for something completely unrelated (in fact, I'm not really even sure what you said in your first post, but it was clearly off track from the original point). Then when I defended my argument (if you can even call it that) you resorted to making personal attacks and ludicrous statements. You're really looking foolish now. Try again bud.

IMHO the Panthers cannot afford to gamble on any player for any reason.

We need intense smart players, players that fight every down.

Watching the San Fran defense and even the Giant defenses, maybe once in the history of this team did we have a defense like that.

If there is a hint of proof that Couples has taken plays off, pass him by because if he takes plays off in a 10-12 game college season you can be belive the 20 game NFL season will kill him.

I posted a link from today that says he stood out during today's practice.

Also from today.

Adam Caplan

Two DEs who stood out to me from the rest: Kendall Reyes (U Conn/North) and Quinton Coples (UNC/South). Size, reach, strength impressive.

Dion Caputi

#UNC DE Quinton Coples is working well as expected; putting his overall size+athletic advantage on display. Uses hands well, sheds nicely.

DE Quinton Coples: he's "the guy" so far. A very tough block, as he's displayed nice burst. Drives blockers back with his long arms.

Wesley Bunting

The game comes very easy for #UNC DE Quinton Coples, so talented can win even when he should be blocked up top-5 talent #SeniorBowl

Scott Kennedy

If #UNC Quinton Coples isn't the D MVP today, it's #bama's Courtney Upshaw, tough to generate offense with those 2 living in the backfield

Scott Kennedy

#UNC's Quinton Coples is solidfying his status out here. He's been unstoppable off the edge, making it look easy at times #seniorbowl

Tom Pelissero

North Carolina end Quinton Coples, Baylor guard/center Philip Blake showed very well in one on one rushing drills.

Ryan Burns

More consensus: Quinton Coples appears to be dominating today, if my list is any indication. Top 10 pick. Huge upside if he wants it.
