They do have the tools to check signal before installation, and are advised to not do the installation if the can not get a good enough signal. Especially with the newer dishes that are catching signal from 5 satellites, mediocre is not good enough, nahmean? I would absolutely get a 2nd opinion, especially if thats what you want. I believe the Verizon FiOS can get you dishless DirecTV. They used to, but dont know if that or the FiOS is available to you...

I'm in the same boat, too. I even tried to get DirecTV but being that in live in a townhouse (Plaza Midwood in Charlotte) my backyard was not far enough away from the building and the signal was interrupted by the roof of my building. TWC is pretty expensive and of course no NFL network, but I was able to call them and get my bill lowered by about 50 bucks a month for the next year...still rather have DirecTV though.
