1st. Dre Kirkpatrick, DB, Alabama

Busted for marijuana? More than half the locker room chiefs. Character concerns? That didn't stop the Panthers from drafting Cam Newton and Brandon Hogan, which ended up being for the best with Cam whom's character concerns ended up being a screen of smoke. Ron Rivera seems to be the man to keep these guys in line, and having a #2 CB to help control the other side of the field will go a long way in helping the Carolina defense.

2nd. Markelle Martin, FS, Oklahoma State

Players that can produce are wanted, and Martin has produced at the FS position. With Sherrod Martin's disappointing finish last season and Markelle Martin's results in a defense that stressed takeaways, it might be better for Sherrod to relinquish his jersey unless he makes a few improvements this offseason. Putting some fresh talent in the secondary can go a long way in helping rejuvenate Carolina's defense which will be getting stronger at the line with starters at both LB and DT coming back.

4th. Senio Kelemete, G, Washington1055519198_jNiCm-L.jpg

The RG position has been an open issue for the last few seasons. Geoff Schwartz had admirably filled in while Duke Robinson contributed nothing of value. However, Schwartz had a major hip issue and is also an RFA at the end of the season. Bernadeau is a UFA and was a turnstyle last season. Hangman is also due to be a UFA. Senio has been climbing draft boards with his work ethic and excellent physical tools. He's also a converted dline player, giving him a little extra meanness. The oline needs some help, and Senio could come in and eventually fill in that damn hole at RG.

5th. Emmanuel Acho, OLB, Texas

There are question marks about Thomas Davis, and Jordan Senn isn't the answer in case TD isn't going to be able to produce. Emmanuel Acho was elected to the 2011 All Big-12 Football First Team and is known for his strong character and work ethic. His brother was also a 4th round defensive end.

6th. Ryan Broyles, WR, Oklahoma

ryan-broyles.jpg

Ryan Broyles set multiple records during his tenure at Oklahoma, and did I mention that he returns punts? After tearing his ACL (MCL? It was a CL for sure), Broyles went from a 2nd round pick to tumbling down in the draft. This would be an insane value pick in my opinion, and would provide competition for Edwards and Pilares.

7th. Drew Butler, P, Georgia

Jason Baker has not punted well the last two seasons and is due $1.6m next season. It would only cost $60k to cut him, and with the Panthers being projected over the salary cap for 2012, he could be a dreaded cap casualty. Drew Butler has had a great college career and has an NFL heritage. Chas Henry went undrafted last year, but I honestly believe Butler to be a better punter that will provide a boost to special teams at a reduced price.

Changes from 1.0 to 2.0

-Changed 2nd from Lavonte David, OLB, Nebraska to Markelle Martin

-Changed 5th from Ryan Steed, CB, Furman to Emmanuel Acho

-Changed 6th from Jeremy Franklin, LB, Arkansas to Ryan Broyles

the direction is ok.

i like jenkins better than kirkpatrick and iloka better than martin, tbh.

i wouldn't hate the picks, though.

one guy i would consider as a punter is brad nortman

i saw this from one of the guys at the senior bowl...

SidelineFB Nebraska punter Brad Nortman is crushing it with hang time of 4.8, 5.0 and 4.9
except nortman is from wisconsin (which he corrected later.

still....that hang time sure would come in handy.

 to the comment above' date=' I could live with the draft. Like others thou, I have Jenkins rated hire then Kirk.....no corner other then Claiborne is worth a top ten though.....[/quote']

agreed.

there are quite a few CBs i wouldn't mind in the second and beyond, though.

claiborne, jenkins, and kirkpatrick are the only CBs i'm loving in the first round.

I won't even front, the Drew Butler pick is my "homer" pick where I say fug it and pretend that I know what I'm talking about because dis be dat SEC country

There are probably better punters to draft/sign, but so long as they don't cost $1.5mil this season like Baker

My thought process was to get starters in the first 3 rounds (oh hai Thor), a development prospect in the 4th, and then throw poo at the wall until it sticks from that point.
