How many calories do you consumer per day?

back when I was dieting I would eat between 1800-2200 calories a day and worked out and burn off about 1200 cal a day, I basically always made sure my cal intake was 1000 more then what I burnt working out, I still work out, but I reached my target weight last year and haven't been as hard on my diet but still watch what I eat.

OK, so you count your workouts as negative calories? How the hell do you know how many calories you burn working out? If I do the treadmill or bike it tells me an estimate, but if I lift, I have no idea how many calories I burn...

Cardio trainer has functions where you can input weight lifting, but its really subjective. I think it over-estimates calories to be honest.

I've switched to MapMyRun and the app calculates calories based on distance and pace (you enter your height and weight before your first workout). It also has options to manually input a workout (and the choices for weights are 10x what CardioTrainer offers). Both apps also have food tracking things but I don't want to get obsessed or anything :)

cardio machines can be off by up to 25%...I do the elliptical for an hour and usually it ends up being around 620 calories burned..according to the machine...When I log it against my calories eaten ( I use livestrong)..I say I burned 400 calories. I'd rather underestimate than overestimate.

I linked this earlier but I don't think anyone saw it. I think I'm going to buy this

I looked at that. Pretty cool. Not sure I want to be that obsessed with my calories all day long. Theres a review in CNET that you might want to read before spending the $150.

Is it a HRM too???

I'm not pre ordering it or anything...I'm gonna wait a few months for reviews on it to come out first

I guess I could just get a HRM..I just don't want to mess with the strap under muh bewbs...the appeal of the nike one is that its just on your wrist

catfang...you said you had a 290 calories run...is that from a treadmill or a hrm?? I've always heard you burn 80 calories with running 1 mile..so you did 3-4 miles?

Its from a GPS-enabled app (MapMyRun). I ran just over 2 miles. Men burn more calories than women (sorry) and the bigger you are, the more calories you burn (I'm about 195)

The number of calories your body uses to carry out these basic functions is known as your basal metabolic rate — what you might call metabolism. Several factors determine your individual basal metabolic rate:

Your body size and composition. The bodies of people who are larger or have more muscle burn more calories, even at rest.

Your sex. Men usually have less body fat and more muscle than do women of the same age and weight, burning more calories.

Your age. As you get older, the amount of muscle tends to decrease and fat accounts for more of your weight, slowing down calorie burning.
