Kingdoms of Amalur

The best way I can describe it is that it's what Fable should have been, but with a WoW art style that was made in today's time, with a little elder scrolls thrown in.

Agree with everything said here. I will also say that the camera is a little weird for me. It's incredibly sensitive. A twitch of the right thumbstick on 360 and the camera spins around all crazy fast. (There is a way to lower the sensitivity of the camera, but it didn't seem to help a ton.)

Also, the spell effects are really, really cool. The game is very stylish, but really pretty.

Put in a few hours. I like it. Going straight spellcaster since I did melee on Skyrim (for a change). Spell effects are sweet. Sceptre is pretty neat too as an alternative to the bow as range (for caster). Only did a couple side quests, picked some flowers, checked out the first town, etc. Different than Skyrim, but that's good, it's a nice break from the darkness to this flashy game.

Still too early for me to put a verdict on it.

They already have like 2-3 dlc items out, which is good and bad. If you are able to have dlc for purchase on release day, why not put that in the game? It was obviously already completed before the game. But it's good cause it has potential for dlc in the future.

Apparently the DLC is the items that you would have got if you pre-ordered through Gamestop. So it's not that bad that DLC was available right away.

I bought this game. It's been fun. Currently doing a Assassin/Thief type character. Sneak kills on the bad guys and pickpocketing all the innocent bystanders. The stealth kills are fun. The character is amazing at stealing money. Haven't been caught yet. Towns giving me praises for helping them while I rob them blind. Combat is fun. Kind of easy when you get good at it. I've been able to stealth kill whole mobs.

I named my character Todd Howard who happens to be a Dokkalfar.

Playing on hard full mage, fun but I faceroll everything. They are probably going to patch a harder difficulty into the game, I'll prob reroll and play as stealth/assassin after that. Game is fun, and Amazon gave me $20 credit for ordering it which was a surprise one morning this week. NIce.

Some criticism of the game.

1. No reason to read the dialogue unless you care about the story. The circle markers of where to go kills all reason to pay attention to clues NPCs give. Gone are the day when you had to make your own map or take notes.

2. Combat is extremely easy. I went to a fateweaver to reset my character to be able to utilize 0-3 skill trainers. Walked around as a level 13 fateless one, didn't apply skill points or ability points. Still kicked ass against "tougher" level mobs.

3. Some skills are an absolute must. Detect hidden. Find it absurd I can't search for hidden things without this skill. Why must I have a skill to make things hidden not hidden anymore instead of doing the old school searching everything or paying attention to clues about where hidden things maybe? Other skills are not needed. Lockpicking and Dispell. If you are good at the mini games, there is no reason to get these skills other than trying to max out character.

4. Money system. Upgrade sagecraft. Complete mission in first town for the alchemy store and you have yourself a gold mine. So easy.

Still overall a fun game though. Worth the money spent. I like the action rpg style of the game. Only having 4 abilities in use at one time is not a problem playing as an assassin. I think it might be though if I played as a mage. Not even sure how many spells there are in the game though so that might not be a problem either unless it annoys you that there isn't a lot of spells.

Some of those things are just RPG elements nowadays, like Skyrim shows you where to go also.

The game isn't perfect, but I'm still digging it. I've got my moneys worth. The combat is super fun. They are probably going to put out a patch for a new harder difficulty, I'll prob play through again when that happens after I beat this one. They said actual DLC will be out pretty soon.

If they added the harder difficulty, put a cooldown on pots, and a few other things, it would be even more fun.
