I heard somewhere that the word fug came from long ago when it was illegal to have sex unless you had permission, alas Fornication Under Consent of the King...

I forget where I heard it(thus don't know if it's true) but fug came from the 100 years war with England and France. English longbows were devastating to French troops because they were made from the flexible yew tree. The French would cut off the middle finger of any Englishmen they caught so if they returned to battle they couldn't use their bows. So it became a tradition of English soldiers to stick up their middle finger to the French showing them they could still draw their bow, which was called plucking your yew. The gesture showing they could pluck yew eventually turned to fug you.

That's probably a bunch of bullshit though, as most of these kind of things are.
