Don't get me wrong; there is no doubt that injuries played a huge part in our season. I just don't want the GM and HC focused on that. Injuries occur every year so the focus has to go beyond the penciled in starters. Get the 53 best players possible and we will overcome injuries.

I guess I'm afraid they have a false sense of security. Marty saying "hey Ron, did you know we missed more snaps to injury last year than any other team" leads me to believe that Marty will be less aggressive filling holes than is prudent.

But it is easy to read too much into an offhand comment. It just struck me wrong and probably means nothing.

Well don't forget that if we don't restructure some contracts we will have nothing to spend on FAs and will be looking for minimum salary guys and rookies through the draft.

Injuries is a poor excuse to me. Beason was injured and that was all that was unexpected to me. Otah? Give me a break. Davis? Should have never bet on a double injury.

Who else was out the majority of the season? The sad thing is that was in fact our starting dline and secondary.

You need to add Edwards and Schwartz to that list as both were expected starters going into camp.

I hear what you are saying about the talent level on our roster. How they go about stocking this team is going to determine how long it is going to take.

On the positive side, we did get reps to players who normally would not have gotten much, if any, playing time.

On the negative side, it did hurt the bottom line as it comes to wins.

I am worried that if we are counting on the draft, we are still a couple of years before we are elite. Using FA wisely, can take a year or so off that time line. So it will interest me greatly as to how they go about stocking the roster.

IMO, our 53 man roster is still short 15-20 guys. The draft alone is not going to bridge that gap.

I guess not everything can be all roses and beewbs. GOOOO CATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have to admit I didn't like him leaning on injury so much in this interview, especially the part about Marty Hurney talking to him about how many snaps our starters missed. Yes, we had plenty of injuries, but our roster was not where it needed to be even if not a single player got injured. It just didn't leave me with confidence that they will be aggressive filling holes.

Anyone else find it odd that Rivera is not at the Shrine Game practices with Marty? Don't coaching staffs typically go as well as GM's?

You do realize that we had 3rd and 4th string players starting in some positions. We had nearly 20 players on IR...a team record.

Injuries had a HUGE impact on our defensive performance this season. Getting guys healthy and adding a few pieces will do wonders for that unit.

Everyone also has to realize that the back-ups being thrust into starting roles also played a negative role on Special Teams. The gusy that were going to be a manistay on ST were now starters and ST back-ups were forced to play more of a role.

Again, getting healthy is a huge additiona to this team.

Beason, Davis, Edwards, Schwartz, Otah, Gettis....that is 6 of 22 starters on offense and defense (over 1/4 of your starters).

That is a huge number of guys to lose....before the season ever started.

Not to mention the guys that we lost during the season.

Injuries play a huge role in the success of teams in the NFL.

Looking at the O-line, Otah can't stay healthy and is in a contract year. Hangartner and Schwartz are free agents. Gross and Wharton are getting older. We need either

Decastro (#1 rated OG in the draft) or an OT with our first pick. Use 1st pick here and the rest on D. Conner is a FA, and we don't know who will be healthy. Some need to be cut (Martin).

Schwartz is a RFA I believe.
