George Lucas: See if I give you Episodes 7-9!

I've felt for some time now that Lucas is an average director who had a magnum opus moment in Star Wars: ANH where everything fell perfectly for him and he was able to get two editors who really wanted to push the envelope concerning film propulsion.

However, at the very least in 1977 he had a passion for what he was doing, and it was that passion that made ANH as well directed as it was--I can never take away from him what he did to get that film made.

But after that? I dunno if it was burn out or what, but things changed, and it pretty much started right after ANH anyway. I just find it funny that Lucas still claim's that Star Wars is "his" when the series best film, Empire, was directed by someone else entirely and written by someone else entirely; and that's not even mentioning Jedi, which is much the same.

It's sad in a way, really. I think Lucas has devolved to a hack who likes to see awesome things on his computer but is too lazy to really get down into the nitty-gritty of filmmaking and do what needs to be done to make it good.

I really enjoyed episodes 2 and 3. But of course I am a Star Wars nerd, so my opinion doesnt count.

I think the prequels did a great job of telling the saga of Anakin's rise through the ranks, and his unexpected downfall due to being outsmarted by Palpatine, only to redeem himself at the very end. They also did a good job of revealing the political mechanisms that Palpatine orchastrated in order to come to power. Palpatine is actually my favorite character due to his relentless cunning and how he plotted everything from the beginning in the shadows.

I think that the #1 main reason that people hated the prequels, and is something that I agree with, is that Hayden Christianson (or however his name is spelled) was a TERRIBLE choice to play Anakin. He did such a bad job that it effectively ended his acting career.

My gripe was it should have started with him as a Jedi in training...not some twerpy bitchy 10 year old who's mistakes somehow save the day.

Lucas should have taken notes from buddy-cop movies for Obi-wan & Anakin's story. Instead it was just so awkwardly forced. Everything was awkward and forced in the movies.
