ESPN Insider Kiper Mock Draft 1.0

I am of the opinion that no matter who we draft it will help the team. I am not completely convinced that none or our CB's aren't salvageable. Maybe Hogan is that guy, maybe Butler is better, maybe Munnerlyn has an epiphany. However saying that JR always takes the high road is incorrect. Hogan being prime example, Cam to some degree, and the fact that Steve Smith is still here (breaking your starting CB nose with a sucker punch aint cool).

This drug arrest will hurt his draft position and maybe is enough of a warning sign that teams shouldn't draft him. It's basically gonna push anyone on the fence to the don't draft side. However weed in today's culture is a lot more prevalent that years past. Used to be a drug bust was immediate 1st round rejection, however that's changing.

Like I said in an earlier post, it's a combination of factors that are gonna determine where he ends up. If he throws in an astronomical combine/workout together along with the fact that 1st round picks don't cost 4547594798 million dollars anymore then he will be taken higher even possibly with the 8/9th pick. Especially if his interview is on point. Talent trumps a great deal of stuff in all aspects of life.

For the record I don't care.

Percy Harvin got busted for weed just before the draft. He was the roty(Farve) and hes just as good as Nicks and Wallace, if not better. He just doesnt have a great qb like they do(Big Ben and Eli Manning).

Jarred Allen had drinking trouble and he just tied Michael Strahan's sack record and has been consistent while palying. Didnt he swat the ball out of Cam hands about two times, causing MAJOR fumbles. What makes it so bad, is that Cam played so well that day and should have won(lol).

All im saying is that you just cant black ball a guy who had little trouble. You have to GUAGE what STAGE(mentally) he is at in the PRESENT moment. And then again some allegations are over exaggeration or just flat out lies(Cam Newton).

This arrest in and of itself will not cause Kirkpatrick to drop. What it will do is cause teams to take a closer look at his off-field activities. Regardless of this incident, teams will check into all these things as part of their normal vetting of a prospect, but this will put a brighter spotlight on his activities, associations, and other character qualities. Any discrepincy will be dissected and questioned at a much deeper level than it would have been before simply because teams will now question his judgement and will want to be satisfied that it will not be a problem in the future.

The thing is that he will have an opportunity to explain what happened and show teams that it is not representative of who he is nor what they can expect from him as a member of their team. Just like where Cam and Hogan made mistakes, after talking with them and those around them, the team felt that their incidents were mistakes and not overall character flaws. The bottom line is that if teams are satisfied that this was an isolated incident, he likely will not drop much, if at all, however, if they still have questions, then he will likely see a significant drop from where he otherwise would be taken.

JR said last year he didn't want a team of choir boys anymore. I think he realized that sometimes if the best player has a little baggage, you gotta take him anyway. And agreed regarding contracts, in the new draft wage system, an 8-9 overall guy isn't going to kill you if he is a bust or has so much off field trouble that you gotta cut him. It's a loss that can be absorbed and not kill your team for 3 years.

If we don't take Kirkpatrick, I'd like to wait until a late round and pick up Janzen Jackson. That guy is going to be a STEAL for somebody.

He's a little bit of a head-case, so Derek Dooley bounced him from UT before last year, but I promise you this guy is 1st or 2nd round talent.
