Romney only pays at a 15% tax rate...wtf

Wanna bet you or I could have got into Stanford if our old man was the Governor of a state and CEO of a car company? Hell maybe even Harvard or Yale....

Some people are smart and have the work ethic...like Andrew Carnegie. Came in from the bottom learned business and went from rags to riches. Some people had success gift wrapped for them and had the intelligence to not fug it up...hi Romney. I'm not calling him an idiot either but his intelligence did not accumulate his wealth.

He could have been a millionaire and been working a tiki bar in fiji since college.

That's an assumption you get to make because you don't have to answer for it. I'd rather not make that assumption, knowing people that have went to Stanford and graduated from there.

How did his intelligence not accumulate his wealth? Since his father was successful in an unrelated field, nothing he does from that point forward can be attributed to him?

No matter how he got in, he still had to succeed on his own. No one cares that your father is successful elsewhere if you being in that position makes them fail. It's a poor excuse from people who never had that opportunity and assume an opportunity is all it takes.

I still don't know what qualifies you to think you are smarter than him. You seem to be smart enough, but smarter than him I'm not sure. Not even sure if you're smarter than me ;).

So Romney got rich by being smarter than the average american? I'd love to go brain to brain with "the rich" to see whose smarter...LOVE it.

We are still arguing Capital Gains when that point is moot. I do not think they should be penalized or taxed heavily on investments. I'm fine with the 15%...and would be fine with a lower % as well.

Barry or Bush2 and I have your back. Romney, Clinton, Gingrich.....not so much.

The last two Presidents have been jokes.

Confirmed :) Now I'm just reaching for anything...

The IQ scores below (unless otherwise stated) are estimates.

2008 Republican Nominees:

John McCain 133 {confirmed}

Mitt Romney 122

Mike Huckabee 110-125

Ron Paul 130 -140

Duncan Hunter 120-130

Fred Thompson 123

Rudy Giuliani 123

So born into an average middle class family of average means what % do you give Romney of reaching the level of personal wealth he is at today?

Anyone of average intelligence (pretty much not an idiot buying cars and other depreciating items) is not going to squander millions. Hell Rule of 70 says I could double my money every 7 -10 years depending on the rate of return.

So out of all those estimates, they are all above average, which I said.

The average American IQ is 98. It's 115 for college grads, which he's still higher than.

Sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

You think their wealth should decrease? They got that rich by being smarter than the average American. They know how to budget money and how to invest. Under no circumstance or tax structure would their wealth ever decline solely because of taxes and if it did, it would be the end of the world. Literally.

Did you just stop reading after my first sentence?

Nobody is making a living at the ballot box. The working poor and welfare recipients aren't living, they're simply existing. What they have, I would hardly call a life.

Spend some time in a third world country, (where the majority of people on earth live) and existing in the US won't seem so bad.

I was in the Philippines in April of last year, and the difference between poverty here and poverty there is hard for most to fathom unless they have actually seen it first hand.

Its why I don't complain when my wife sends a good portion of her paycheck to her family there.

do the rich hate the poor? should that be my assumption when hundreds of thousands of jobs are cut and golden parachutes handed out to the board members?

perhaps they envy the poor?

The poor hate that the rich are rich and our biased media and political system tells them they are paying more taxes than said rich.

The middle class and rich hate that most of America is dumb enough to think that the poor are actually paying more than them in taxes.

so everybody's selfish and angry that everyone else is selfish?

the poor don't hate the rich, the poor don't like seeing the rich complain about how hard things are for them and then bail each other out. It doesn't really matter how little you're being taxed when you're still struggling to put food on the table/oil in the heater etc or when your house is underwater because of some f*cked up scheme that you don't understand.

perhaps the rich should invest in a PSA that tells the poor how lucky they are that they aren't paying more in taxes, i'm sure everyone would feel better then.

I dont respect Romney's weath either. He isnt self-made. It is family money, and yes, daddy being a governor can get you into any college. GWB got into Yale because of his father.

I honestly think that Romney doesnt even have a clue what it is like to be in the shoes of the middle class right now. He has always been an elitist, and is personally out of touch of the reality the 99% of us are living in.

Still a better choice than Obama, but not the ideal candidate to help the middle class.

No nominee, now or as far back as 40 years has any idea of what it's like to be middle class, nor poor.

Anyone pro business is better than President Obama. Does Mitt have any idea what a car payment can feel like after Christmas....nope. But at least he knows that the free market is the backbone of this republic.

It goes beyond just the "capital gains" tax breaks too. The extremely wealthy have access to all kinds of tax relief that the average citizen does not.

I would love to see the look on the IRS' face when I ask them for a corporate jet for my business, and that it should be written off as tax deductable for business use...

Tax breaks on company cars(Mercedes-Benz and BMws driven for personal use...) Home mortgage deductions for multi-million dollar homes, When people that are too poor to afford to buy they're own home get no relief. etc...

Would you care to do away with standard deductions, and dependents?
