Paula Deen admits the obvious; shes a diabetic

For years her show and articles such as “7 Things Paula Deen Fried and Ate” sparked rumors that the cooking icon had diabetes. She was often criticized for promoting food high in fat and calories at a time when about a third of American adults are considered obese.

Now Deen is going public with a diagnosis she received three years ago during a regular checkup with her doctor: She has Type 2 diabetes.

“I’m great,” she said on NBC’s "Today' show Tuesday morning. “I’m here today to let the world know that it is not a death sentence.”

The celebrity chef is launching a campaign with her two sons, Bobby and Jamie, called Diabetes in a New Light as part of her agreement to be a paid spokeswoman for Novo Nordisk, a maker of diabetes medications. The family is offering new, lighter versions of their favorite recipes and advice on managing the disease.

I can imagine that anyone that was following her recipes probably already had health issues of their own.

I know a really really big girl who has diabetes ...wears one of those monitors and everything yet eats like sh*t and just keeps on gaining weight....MrPF said he saw her the other day and she had two open bags of tostitos and a huge gigantic bowl of cheese dip...just sitting there eatin' it...

ugh...gross

I don't get it..in this day and age...as much as we know about certain foods and what they do to you...yet peeps are getting diabetes like it's going out of style..

On a daily basis, I pretty much have everything I eat mapped out to a T and it starts with juicing a ton of vegetables in the morning for breakfast, a bunch of egg whites, a grilled chicken spinach salad for lunch and then some sort of grilled chicken dish for dinner. I'm one of the only near 30 year olds I know that actually looks in shape.

That being said, I love me some Paula Deen recipes. The key that Americans don't understand is "moderation". A butter loaded mash potato and bacon dish isn't going to kill you when you eat it 2-3 times a year. 3 times a week though...
