Any good ski places near Bryson City, NC?

My fiance never skied before so I need something good for beginners. Any ideas?

Not a great year for it. Many of the ski resorts have less than half their trails open because it has been so warm.

The ski resort I went to last winter has 39 trails, they have 11 open right now. They're in WV too and average over 150" of snow a year in a normal season. I can't imagine how bad the resorts further south must look right now.

Another problem is going to be how crowded the slopes are. People are still going skiing, but there are less slopes open, so you'll have more people on the slopes that are open. Not good for beginners.

I've been trying to ski all winter, but every weekend it is either raining or too warm.

It has been a slow first half of the season, but the slopes have been able to make snow recently. The closest mountains that your going to be able to go to that will have anything close to decent snow coverage are the ones around the Boone area, and that's about a three hour drive from where you are.

Why are you in Bryson City?

Cherokee is just down the road. As far as sking, Maggie Valley in Haywood county is going to be the closest. They have had something open I have heard.

Beautiful area in the summer.

I got us a cabin in smokeys for valentine day, about 15min drive outside Bryson City. I just want to chill. Maybe go see waterfalls and hike.
