Saints should lose at least 4-5 key starters this offseason

Exactly, Brees was on a tear this year. Hard to keep up that pace. The key against the Saints the next few years will be keeping them to a lower seed in the playoffs. It's been said a million times, but they just are not the same team away from the dome.

Please, if you want to make fun of me because I misspelled Lombardi at least be man enough to admit that I know what I am talking about. Read the quote below from an Interview that Brees had today. Gosh do you think he might be trying to structure this thing in a way that pays him but also is cap friendly? Wonder where I heard that before? So many of you make stupid comments without doing your research and either you don't know what you are talking about or you are so afraid that the next 7 or 8 years you are going to be locked out of the NFC south that you will try and force yourself to believe that this nightmare can't be true. Face it, Saints are going to keep Brees and Nicks and Colston and now have a DC that is going to make them one of the most complete teams in NFL history!

"My No. 1 priority, and it always has been this, is keeping our team together and making sure we have the right guys in the right positions to make a run at this for a long time," Brees said. "Now, obviously my job is not head coach and my job is not general manager. I feel like we've got two very capable individuals in those positions. But I think we all kind of work together on this thing.''

That quote means nothing. What do you think he is going to say? Maybe this: "Yeah I am all about the money and I don't give a crap about the Saints, the fans or the community. My goal in this is to rape the organization for all I can get and keep the team from ever competing again."

Until the contract is inked all he said were patronizing words that mean nothing. If all he cared about was the team, then why isn't the deal already done? Are you really that stupid?? Or maybe just naive. He knows he is in the driver's seat and will get his for sure. The only way he doesn't break the bank is if they decide to franchise him which delays things for a while. In the end he will average between 18-20 million a year. Too bad when it gets done you will be long gone and won't show back up to eat the crow you deserve.

Brees comes off as forced class. Tries to say the right thing every time no matter what. Like he is worried about his reputation in the spot light. When I read that pfw scouting article on Cam, I think of Brees when he says fake smile.

But it is probably mostly just biased since I dislike him more then any spots figure.

LMFAO like you had any clue who the Saints were prior to 2009.

Cam comes off as an immature kid that pouts, throws temper tantrums, and puts the towel over his head when he is not winning. As opposed to Brees, Cam does have to worry about his reputation since he is a proven criminal that stole a laptop and tried to hide it just a few years ago as well as is proven to come from a family willing to take illegal monies. Unlike Cam, Brees is a proven commodity and didn't even have to address anything related to signing back key players, but the fact he did shows he has a vested interest in helping to bring them back and should help by restructuring his contract.

It's funny that you have to go back to '98 to find just a single blacked out game for Saints because they didn't sell the 72,000 seats in Superdome, yet this new thing about Saints not having any fans before '09 is just so utterly ridiculous to the point of being funny. Brees first year with Saints was a game short of Superbowl, so if you're going to make up some bandwagon nonsense, shouldn't you at least start there? Yes, it's true with Saints being one of the elite teams of the league that they have a lot of new fans, but to say they had none beforehand is just silly considering they have been selling out one of the biggest stadiums in league all along. Even if you go back to the worst times in early 80's , the games still had 85% to 90% average occupancy. Do a quick google search and look up "Superdome Saints home game attendance" and you will see our lowest years still had more fans in stands that Panthers had this year!

Cam is immature and does pout when things are not going his way. He puts the towel over his head regardless of the score, though. He is 22 years old. A rookie. He acts like one because he is one.

Drew Brees still seems fake to me. He always will have a hidden agenda to me. I will always get the vibe that the PR is all a show. He could prove me wrong by not signing a contract that makes him one of the top 5 paid QBs in the league. But I really don't see it happening.

How about if I just go back to 2006, http://espn.go.com/nfl/attendance/_/year/2006.

Go back into the 90's and early 2000's and it was worse. LOL the damn Saints were about to relocate but the hurricane saved that from happening.

Breesus literally has a chip on his shoulder because when he blew out his shoulder in San Diego and was let go in Free Agency only 2 shithole teams showed interest in him, the Aints and the Dolphins. He went with the 3-13 Saints and made the best of it.

Believe me, some team is going to be bled dry with this next contract.

If he really was fake, don't you think that something would have come up in past 5 years? Brees is very involved with many charities and constantly volunteers his time. The week before first playoff game he attended a charity event for ex player Gleason eventhough most players might have not shown up in the middle of preparing for such an important game. Also, keep in mind how many product endorsements he does and that those alone pay almost as much as his contract. He has made it very clear his goal is to repeat and Structuring hos correct with more money at end when caps are going to be higher is not a big deal, especially of it helps keep key guys like Nicks and Colston. Brees is extremely wealthy already and whether he brings in a total with endorsements of $25 mil or $35 mil this coming year isn't a big difference since he isn't spending millims of dollars each month.

I like Brees would have loved to have him on the Panthers as everyone else would have. I am glad we don't have him obviously since Cam has come along and hopefully we are set at QB for the next 10-15 seasons. I would not expect the Saints to fall off the map next year. They will be tough competition again but I think we can finish ahead of them and win the South. They talk of their demise next season might be a little overstated here on this site.

The more you post the more ignorant you prove to be. First off Newton has not proven to be a criminal. He has never been charged with a crime yet alone convicted of anything. Maybe you have heard the term innocent until proven guilty. It is the cornerstone of the American judicial system.

And Brees can't restructure his contract, he is a free agent. He can extend his contract but he can't restructure it. He can structure the contract so he gets his 60 million signing bonus up front and guaranteed money yet backload it so his cap hit may only be 15-16 million this year but it will go up every year and if he is still playing in a few years will be a cap hit of 23-24 million. He will make it so it coincides with the cap increasing in 2014. But why tell you all this so you could appear semi-intelligent going forward. Keep up the ignorant trolling. It just confirms what we see what Saints fans in general.

Here is the article which is posted elsewhere that explains that the way the team will be able to sign other players which will be to use the franchise tag on someone else instead of him if he signs before March 13th. But he will average at least 18 million a year over the term as I told you before. As he says this won't last forever. He knows it, I know it, you obviously don't have a clue.

http://www.nola.com/saints/index.ssf/2012/01/drew_brees_wants_to_wrap_up_lo.html

Brees is expected to sign one of the richest deals in NFL history, with an annual value around $18 million per year.

"Is it realistic to think we can keep absolutely everybody? I don't know how realistic that is, just because every year on a team there's turnover, and I think that's just the business we're in. That's the biggest reason why it's so sad when the season ends. It's not because the season is over and you don't get to play any more games, or you know you're not going to win a championship that year. The biggest sadness comes in because you're looking around the room and you know that there's guys you've become very close to that you might not be playing with any more."

"Maybe it gets harder as you get older, just because you don't know how many more opportunities you're going to have," Brees said. "We like to believe that this will last forever, but obviously it doesn't. And so, especially when you put a group together that we had, the type of team we had, which I felt really in all phases was right there and ready to make a run, it just goes to show you just how difficult this game is, especially when you get in the playoffs.

Truth is your team has shown you can only make a deep run in the playoffs if you play at home. That is why you failed the last 2 years. Next year you will likely lose at least 2 more games in the division alone. Without homefield advantage you guys are once and done.

    • Man whether it's the Panthers or the Hornets it's crazy how many foolish talking heads there are in the local media. I just unsubscribed from locked on Hornets. Doug Branson with his cheesy mustache is an absolute clown especially when his partner isn't on. Talking about trading LaMelo because he can't win basketball games by himself with no semblance whatsoever of a legitimate Center. These YouTube personalities will say anything for a damn click.
    • I’m hoping for that exact same scenario, two seconds would be big for us. I’d hope for 3 impact players. A WR/DL/DE that can contribute like this current class would be key to our rebuild.
    • When I look at what I can find, a carryover problem from last season is our receivers are still unable to get enough separation on a consistent basis. Canales is certainly better at scheming them open, like how he sneaked out Thielen for a big play. But then he's also having Thielen running routes he frankly shouldn't be doing anymore. I feel part of the RZ issues is not really having anyone - after trading Diontae - who can make those quick cuts on a short field to give whoever is under center a wider window to throw. We also only have one guy with blazing speed in Thompkins and from what I could see, he's really used more to draw away coverage. I bring this all up because what Canales needs for sustained success - other than QB - is the other receiver pieces we'll be getting in the offseason.  Otherwise, I have to say that Canales isn't as afraid to be aggressive offensively. As others mentioned, still doesn't run the ball enough at times. Finally, I still feel his playcalls still doesn't line up with his mantra of getting rid of the ball within x amount of seconds. Maybe I count too slow. Oh, and I'm glad Canales first game after a bye looked good. I feared he'd be like Ron Rivera where we would fall flat on our faces.
