Saints should lose at least 4-5 key starters this offseason

Waiting:drool5:

The reason it is taking so long is because the Saints and Brees want to make sure it is designed in a way that has the smallest impact on the cap. Don't be surprised if you catch yourself saying "how did they do that?" after the deal is done. It will be incredibly creative and will allow Brees to make sure that he will be a Saint for the rest of his career and pay him among the best while at the same time will open up space for the resigning of key guys. That is what makes the Saints and Brees unique. Best front office combined with a QB that puts the city and winning above ego. Don't be surprised when the Saints sign Brees to a 8 year contract worth around $120 Million and $40 Mill of that in signing bonus. That would give them a very negligible hit and allow them the space to sign Nicks, Colston, Meach and the key defensive players.

Lol he is not going to have an 8 year deal with only 40 million guaranteed.

more like 6 years 110 million with 65 guaranteed.

I am still not certain that they will even go 6 years.

With the rookie pay scale veterans are going to be demanding more, as they should be.

Whew, Saint's fans are so fuging stupid.

You sir, are a fuging retard.

Professional athletes in all sports measure their worth by contract. If you get paid the 10th best, you are the 10th best, plain and simple. And if you think Brees will make a deal because he thinks the Saints will win a championship, think again.

Brees thought process is this:

Saints were a joke of a franchise before I got here, and will be a joke again after I am gone.

I have a chance to win a championship wherever I go because I alone, am that damn good.

So if the Saints don't want to give me Peyton Manning's deal plus at least $500K/year more, then I will go to a team that wants to win titles.

If Brees next contract isn't an $18.5MM/year hit I will eat crow and say you were right, but it's not gonna happen.

Go to the nearest major university.

Take a macroeconomics course, as well as microeconomics and a few finance classes.

Come back, re-read this fuging post again and say "I'm sorry, daddy. I'm a fuging moron."

i expect his contract to be larger than either brady or peyton.

they are going to want to lock him in for the better part of a decade so it's going to take a lot of coin.

His next deal is expected to compete with the recent deals signed by Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning (five years, $100 million), New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady (a four-year, $72 million extension) and Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick (at least five years, $80 million). However, all of those deals are structured differently, which leaves a lot of wiggle room in Brees' contract talks. For instance, manning's deal averages $23 million per year over the first three years, while Brady's deal actually averages $15.7 million over five years since he still had one year left on his previous contract.

btw...i got that from nola.com

he's got a longer future than brady or manning. he's better than vick.

the dude isn't going to take a lesser amount of money because of "love for team" or "love for city".

what a naive outlook.

considering they got a whole lot more out of him than they gave him in his first contract you could make the argument that the saints and the town of new orleans owe him more.

i would be surprised if the contract was anything less than $17mil a year and it will probably be worth as much as $19-20mil/year.

sooo....new orleans, good luck with that.

If you read anything from that Nola article, it's the part where the Saints and Bree's were far apart on a deal. That's the main reason it got tabled.

He's wanting to be the highest paid QB in the league, I'm expecting 120 Million with about 60 of that Guaranteed. Probably a 6 year deal worth 110-120 million with a 40 Million signing bonus and the other 20 as an option bonus in year 3.

I love it when clueless part time ignorant people try to comment on something they know nothing about. Then again, I guess I can understand why none of you can relate to the relationship that Drew has with the city and the Saints. Sit back, watch and weep as Drew, Loomis and the team create a contract that benefits Brees and the Saints. It would not surprise me at all if it leads to the Saints winning four or five consecutive NFC south titles along with a couple of MORE Lombardy trophies.
