Saints should lose at least 4-5 key starters this offseason

psssst...hey drew, it's the dolphins. remember us? we tried to bring you in back in 2006 but we wouldn't pony up the cash? well... we're listening this time.

that would be too funny.

i can see it happening, though. the dolphins would be foolish to not consider it right now, esp. when they see the foolishness of their ways thinking they could get by with lesser QBs.

they wanted luck or RG3, but they won't have a shot without giving up a poo ton of picks.

they want peyton and they are probably willing to pay him whatever he wants if he's healthy enough. they'll probably pay big for that packers backup as well.

if i was condon, i'd be calling the phins up right about now and at least gaging interest.

It's hilarious, because if you travel to a Saints forum, the sheer amount of ignorance they have is stunning.

They truely believed Brees would play for pennies because he wanted to make sure he would do anything possible in that trash hole of a city.

They're in denial, he's a posterboy for humbleness, but not this time. This is Brees' last contract and he wants to cash in.

Either way this is great for the Panthers.

Option A. Saints overpay Brees, getting the contract done quickly, but financially hampering the Saints not just this year, but on into the future as well.

Option B. They tag Brees on the 20th. He's there another year, but they can't franchise another play whose looking to cash in. They'd still have to leave themselves open financially for next year when this entire ordeal happens again, so they wouldn't be able to give some of their other guys' the big pay days.

Option C. Its a long drawn out process that right on up to crunch time, and they don't give Brees what he wants. This strains Brees relationship with their management.

Obviously Option C is the most beneficial to Saints fans, but it's also the least likely.

that was pretty much a joke post but if he was to truly work FA i think they'd be in the thick of it.

i mean it was alleged back then that drew actually preferred miami but they were supposedly extremely concerned about his shoulder and either didn't make an offer/lowballed him.

yeah, i saw it as a joke at first but if he were interested in getting the best deal he'd be crazy to not consider offers from other teams desperate for a QB.

i wouldn't put it past the redskins to try and make something work, either.

not really having to do anything with his contract, but it sure made me chuckle.

PFF_MikeClay Since 2008, 7.8% of Drew Brees' aimed passes at home have resulted in a TD. That mark is 4.9% on the road. Wow!

PFF_MikeClay Dome QBs are always better at home, but that Brees' TD rate split is crazy. TD% is barely above NFL avg on the road

PFF_MikeClay In case you're wondering, the NFL 'TD/Aimed Pass' rate is 4.8% at Home and 4.3% on the road

PFF_MikeClay Eagles QBs had a 13:5 TD:INT ratio on the road in 2009, 18:6 in 2010, and 13:15 in 2011

Feb. 08, 2012 5:04 p.m. - by Larry Holder - Brees' contract frustrations rising

Drew Brees feels baffled, if not worse about how long it's taking for him to receive a long-term contract extension, an unnamed Saints player told CBSSports.com's Mike Freeman. Brees has said several times that a deal should be struck before free agency opens, but Freeman reported that privately Brees is telling teammates that his frustrations are rising.

Ruh-roh

Hometown discount because he owes the Saints so much.

Obviously he's wanting Brady/Manning money, but the Saints probably are finding it tough to offer that kind of cash....considering the lack of success on the road, maybe their overall opinion of him isn't seeing eye to eye with his opinion of himself. The playoff loss took a little shine off his dome-fest passing record.
