Pass Rushers - 2nd Round DE

Adams once again had some reps where he looked great followed by others where he was terrible. One win came against Marshall's Vinny Curry. At left tackle, Adams got a hold of Curry on an edge rush and kept him out of the pocket. At right tackle, Curry fired off the snap with speed off the edge. He sunk his hips and got skinny to get leverage on Adams. The big tackle couldn't do the same as Curry reached the marker with Adams falling onto the ground at the spot of the quarterback.

Curry exploited a couple of mismatches when he lined up at defensive tackle. He beat Bergstrom and Zeitler. Zeitler had no answer for Curry's speed as he raced by him with a swim move. Zeitler also lost on a speed rush to Boise State defensive tackle Billy Winn. It was an ugly rep for Zeitler.

Reyes kept charging through the line and forced a big tackle for a loss. Wolfe had a sack of Wisconsin quarterback Russell Wilson on a bootleg. Wolfe made a good read and fired into the backfield to tap Wilson's pads before running by him. Curry had a nice rush where he blew by Adams to flush the quarterback out of the pocket. Lavonte David also had a tackle for a loss after he fired into the backfield on a play. Johnson beat Adams for a probable sack on a speed rush. Ta'amu had some good plays and was disruptive.

Mayock said that Curry does everything well, but nothing great. He seems to be a jack of all trades. His athletiscm is outstanding.. which means his upside is great. He will get into the 2nd round on his motor and athletiscm alone.

Please excuse me for expanding this past the second round, but I am interested in some opinions.

What do you think about (I know this one is a bit controversial) Donte Paige-Moss in the 6th round? I see Hardy in him.

What do you see the Panthers doing with Thomas Keiser?

Another name that I like and he could be there in the 5th round is Jake Bequette of Arkansas. He is 6-5, 270 and runs an estimated 4.62 40. He had 9 sacks this season, but sat three games with a hamstring injury.

I like Bequette a lot. I'd love to pick him up in the later rounds. Just a solid football player.

I see the Panthers rotating Keiser in with Hardy/Johnson/A.N. Other at DE and occasionally standing him up when we drop into a 3-4 look.

I can see the value of drafting a DE/OLB hybrid, but he would have to be an exceptional pass rusher for it to work for us - as in he'd have to create pressure almost every time we stand him up in the 3-4 (as we do it so infrequently). Those guys aren't going to fall in the draft. Players like Upshaw and Ingram fit that bill, but a 3-4 team will pick them up as 3 down players and move them around to create matchup problems.

I think Vinny Curry might be that guy. He is looked at as both a 4-3 DE and 3-4 OLB by scouts.. and he has a non-stop motor with a ton of heart. Relentless pursuit.. you hear all of these things when scouts talk about him at the senior bowl. He should be there in the 2nd round for us.

Bequette is being thought of as this years Ryan Kerrigan.

Audie Cole is being looked at as a Clay Matthews type player.

We were seen interviewing both Curry and Audie Cole.. so we could be looking for that 3-4 OLB pass rusher.

I like the idea of this front 4:

Charles Johnson - 6' 2" 275 lbs

Ron Edwards - 6' 3" 315 lbs

Michael Brockers - 6' 6" 310 lbs

Chandler Jones - 6' 5" 265 lbs

But I don't know if the team will take 2 DL with the first two picks for the second straight season.

Cam Newton? :cam:

Cam Newton? :cam:

lol i worded that poorly.

I was trying to say, I don't know if they take 2 DL for the second straight year with our first 2 picks this year. I could see taking a DL in round 1 and 4 this year. But I don't know about using the first 2 picks on it.

(I'm on my phone, so posts will be bad).

Cannot coach motor and athetiscm but he seems to fit a 3-4 defense more closely but I did read the panthers had interest in him.

Usually, getting good pass rushers in FA are going to cost you a pretty penny.. that's why we need to find one in the draft.

Agreed but to pull our defense out of the shitter we need one either through the draft or fa.Hardy is good but not good enough

I think the Panthers would rather find one in the draft. They are all about building through the draft. I agree about Hardy. He is not disciplined enough.. and has mental lapses. I think he is a rotational player.
