Coples

Its like someone else said, I don't think you can judge the guys on Carolina's team by the season they had. Butch Davis basically screwed them and any motivation to play. IMO you have a MUCH better shot at success with a guy like Coples who has the athletic ability and size to play pretty much any DL position (other than NT) than you do with a guy like Brockers who is a pure DT. I won't be disappointed if we go with a talented OLB but our problems are at the point of attack with our piss-poor DL and drafting another rookie DT IMO isn't going to fix the problem.

I just remember hearing ALLL of the same stuff about Mario Williams that I am hearing now about Quinton Coples. He didn't live up to expectations, he slacked and played not to get hurt, he's just a "workout warrior." Five years later IDT anyone is questioning Mario's ability.

The thing that all elite teams have in common come playoff time...they get after the QB. GB did it really well the season they won. We all know about what the Giants do with their stable of pass rushers. The Steelers and Ravens have been the best at it for years. Now add the Niners to that list. You HAVE to be able to get pressure on the QB every single down. Coples IMO has the ability to do that better than anyone else in the draft.

Coples suck and the people who keep making excuse why he sucks are giving a really strong UNC homer vibe.

He is a state fan. I don't know any UNC fans that want the Panthers to draft him.

Carolina fans don't want to draft him because they are looking through a haze of blue that tells them to hate any player that doesn't live up to billing for their team. I get it...I had the same questions about Mario when he was coming out. I thought he was a specimen, sure, but I also thought the writers who projected him as a top 3 pick were insane for doing so. The same is happening for Carolina fans with Coples.

I don't really care if we draft Coples...but we do need a perimeter pass rush whether it comes in the form of a down DE or a upright OLB. Spending our first round pick on a DT that isn't going to make noise for a few years isn't the answer. Not to mention Brockers wasn't even considered the best DT in the country until this past week. Where has the hype been the rest of the season? I also question his value if he is playing with 4 other guys on the line who are all going to be starters in the league and he isn't dominating. He wasn't exactly Ndamakung Suh this year...

Brockers wasn't expected to declare for the draft until this past week, and we aren't exactly talking about picking him with #2 overall this year.
