How far are we from getting Our defense to play Like San Fran?

Interior pass rush. San Frans big guys were pushing the pocket really well. Drew Brees is a master at avoiding the edge rush if that's all that is brought at him. I think his size really becomes a liability when you push his O-line back into him like the 49ers did. Our linebackers are good although I think we need to find Thomas Davis's replacement. If we can find a true interior presence I think it would do wonders for our defense like Kris Jenkins used too.

how many free agents did San Fran pick up this year?

The ones I know of:

Braylon Edwards - bad signing

David Akers- great signing

Carlos Rogers- great signing

Johnathon Goodwin- from New Orleans, good signing

Donte Whitner- great signing

That is how you supplement through FA.

Brees is known for tearing apart blitzes and this game further drove home that the way you beat him is by collapsing the pocket so your back 7 can sit in coverage and choke out all the screens and dink and dunk stuff they like to run when they're not able to stretch the field. Admittedly, Brees passed for over 400 yards but it came on like 60+ attempts. The guy is a nightmare no matter what you do but he can be held (relatively) in check.

The 49ers also could have blown this game wide open if they would've capitalized on the turnovers. It should have never been this close with the way their defense was playing.
