The 8th Pick

Would most likely give us the best plausible scenario at this point for a trade down.

If Miami and Buffalo follow the Panthers pick at 8, and both need a 3-4 OLB, then someone like the Jets who couldn't buy pass pressure this year, and also needs the same 3-4 OLB that their two division rivals need, would be a prime candidate to move to the 8 spot, take someone like Upshaw and give us their second rounder.

At 16, we take CB Dennard who I think will rate out close to the same as Kirkpatrick and will be more durable in the long run.

Then, in the second round, we could address safety, guard, right tackle, WR, DT or OLB, depending on the best value available.

Dennard at 16 is a huge reach. I'd love the trade, but we could still probably get Brockers at 16. Zach Brown or Decastro or Still would be decent picks there too. With our two second round picks we could probably get Dennard or Minnifield or Gilmore and (my 2nd round love affair) Markelle Martin.

I would love to get DeCastro, but doubt he makes it this far. I think when all is said and done, Kirkpatrick and Dennard will be 1A and 1B. Z Brown I think will end up top of second.

If a Decastro is there, take him, best CB at top of second and then a safety/OLB latter second rounder.

I wouldn't put any thought into most of these guys flapping jaws, or should I say flailing fingers. If you watched the pre-draft threads last year about 90 percent of these guys lost all of their credibility.

salary involved doesn't really matter...at least not when the rookie cap is in force. i think it matters more that you aren't leaving a lot of talent on the board because you are so focused on meeting a need.

also, teams value picks. it isn't about the money. it's about who teams want and what they are willing to give up (position-wise) to get it.

if you have your eyes on a few guys that will be around later and know that someone is desperate to pick someone up that might not be there when they pick, you work a trade.

I am not sold on taking another DT that is going to have to grow into the position. Especially in the 1st round. I realize this guy could be a beast but how long will we have to wait until he matures in the position.

I would say CB but then again we have Hogan who was projected as a 2nd rounder until he got hurt and his off the field activities knocked him down.

Safety would probably be my guess but then again I am not sure if there is a safety in the 1st round worthy of the pick. (Being overseas kinda limits my ability to follow college football as much as I like)

I do believe there will be a OT available at #8. I truly believe we are done with the Otah bench riding experience and cut him free. Seems like many don't believe Bell is a career starter. I think for being shoved into the position and staying there all season should give him some props.

I agree with you. As much as I want Brockers (or Still, or Poe if we traded down), I don't actually think we go DT in the first having just drafted two guys relatively early last year and signing a vet. Same with CB, Kirkpatrick is a great prospect but we just got Hogan (who really looks like he's being groomed for the #2 spot) and have two guys in Captain and Butler who would be decent to good nickle guys.

I really think we're going to try very hard to trade back. Barring that, I think it will be whoever is left of the OL (Martin/Reiff/possibly DeCastro), a LB or possibly a WR if value is there.

All of these guys will go up and down, be overhyped, and who knows what else in the next 3-4 months. Right now if we could trade down somehow and get (1)one of the OT's or OG (DeCastro or Cordy Glenn); (2)one of the group of the best corners ( I think there are about 3-4 pretty close), or Martin at S; (3)and a KR/scat back or WR (Demps?), in the first 3-5 rounds that would be excellent Not sure there are any DT's that will contribute soon enough to help us next year.

I think secondary help is needed most whether that be a cb or a s, then LB/OL in the 2nd. I would be surprised to see us trade out of this spot but who knows?
