Gregg Williams likely out in New Orleans

Recommended Posts

Per Rotoworld.com:

According to SI's Peter King, the Rams are "expected" to hire Gregg Williams as defensive coordinator under Jeff Fisher.

Williams is coordinating the Saints' defense in the playoffs, but his contract is up after the season and he is a longtime pal of Fisher. Williams would keep St. Louis' 4-3 alignment in place. He's known for heavy blitzing. It's fair to wonder if Eagles DL coach Jim Washburn might join Williams and Fisher in St. Louis. Washburn's "Wide-9" scheme may not mesh well in Philadelphia if the Eagles hire Steve Spagnuolo as defensive coordinator.

Good for the Panthers or indifferent? I don't suppose the Saints would change much about their defense since it's already not spectacular this year, but Gregg Williams was a huge reason (touted by the media) as to why the Saints won it all two years ago and it was because of his aggression and turnovers for scores.

I am personally glad any time someone in the division loses someone from the coaching staff. The Falcons are almost in a restart mode after the OC and DC left, the Bucs have blown up their coaching staff, and now even the Saints are missing some folks.

Good? Bad? Ugly?

i hope so. can't wait for that douche to be gone from the division.let him and his "remember me" shots hurt the 49ers, seahawks, and cards. i don't care. payton is still a douche as well, though. i doubt that he'll tell the players to stop doing that kind of thing. after all, he hasn't already.

as far as the falcons losing their coordinators..kind of mixed emotions there. i think they had hit their ceiling so i was more than happy for them to stay. better the devil you know than the devil you don't. falcons could easily get better with better coordinators and schemes.

bucs will still suck though.

Yeah Falcons fans seemed to peg everything on Mularkey's scheme, but part of me thinks it played to Matt Ryan's capabilities. He's not a down-the-field QB and there was a reason that Roddy White has the most targets and receptions, but not a lot of yards to show for it. Those dink and dunk curl routes and dumpoffs killed me, and I think the check downs said more about Matt Ryan than it did Mike Mularkey. An offense that asks Matt Ryan to pass more and take more chances? Yes please. The playoffs show how mistake prone he is when the game is entirely in his hands.

Saints take less time than anyone to score leaving that D on the field for a long time. In NO and GB's defense, stats really don't tell the whole story.

Glad he's gonna be gone, but the dirty attitude comes from Mr Oxy himself.

Falcons are heading to decline mode. The window is closing on them. Can't compete in the playoffs. They remind me of the 2008 Panthers except they have Ryan instead of Jake. Might need to get rid of Mike Smith as well.
