I don't understand how Still doesn't fit our scheme. What part of a 6-5 310 lbs DT doesn't fit our 4-3? I could understand the argument against Upshaw (but don't completely agree with it) but it's ludicrous to think Still wouldn't fit our scheme...there's no scheme a guy like him doesn't fit.

And while Keuchley has been a great MLB, just because he played OLB some doesn't mean he can do it in the pros. He looks too slow to play OLB. If ANYONE doesn't fit our scheme it's Keuchley because he ain't taking Beason's job, and moving Beason outside is stupid.

My problem with still is the fact that he was also used as a defensive end just as much as he was used as a defensive tackle. If he was a pure defensive tackle that would be one thing but defensive tackle and defensive end is night and day. Unlike outside and inside linebacker.

If he wasn't built for DT I could see your argument, but just because Penn St didn't use him as a DT shouldn't make anyone think he can't do it. Marcell Dareus was a DE in college, but I believe he'd be a better 4-3 DT than 3-4 DE.

I'll do more research on him and can't back to you. I'll be honest, I haven't really looked at him much other than the Alabama vs. Penn State game.

I think it's his height that automatically makes people think 3-4 DE. There is a stricter physical requirement for 3-4 DE than 4-3 DT (typically 3-4 DEs need to be taller than a 4-3 DT but still just as heavy or close to it) so because the pool of players that fit the mold is smaller, when someone does fit the mold people automatically think that's where he needs to play. So since he's one of the few that fit the mold, a 3-4 team that needs a DE will be more likely to jump on him because they're harder to find. But he can still be very successful as a 4-3 DT, in my opinion.

Kuechly doesn't have the speed or the pass coverage abilities to be an OLB in a 4-3 defense. Considering the team already has Anderson, they need someone with the speed to cover the elite TE's in the Panther's division and Kuechly can't do that.

He's strictly a MLB in the NFL and that's something the Panther's don't need.

Kuechly is not a fit here. We have an All Pro tackling machine in Beason. This would then force us to play our best Defensive player out of position while ignoring the other glaring needs on the D side of the ball. If Kuechly was a pass rush LB I would be more inclined as we need to either pressure QB's more or put guys in the secondary that can cover them. As for a tackling machine....we have them already

Still is not fast enough to play defensive end in the NFL.

I can nearly guarantee you that the Panthers will stay away from someone that does not 100% fit with their scheme.

Kuechly is more diverse than Still because Kueckly has spent time at the weak side, strong side, and inside.

Still could play 34 DE, but not DE in a 43.. I never said he could. Still is a DT in a 43, and we could draft him as such. He plays a 43 in college, just like the Panthers play..

You say that Penn St played him at DE sometimes? For a man of that size to be able to play DE in a 43 is absolutely amazing.. that tells me he is very athletic and quick for a man his size. Makes me like him even more. He could be a perfect 3 tech in our scheme. He is also stout against the PoA, and I read that some scouts think he could play the 1 tech in a 4-3. So he sounds very versatile along our line, playing all 4 positions.

I have no problem with the Reiff and Martin picks, and Still or DeCastro would be ideal. If we must have a LB, which I think we do, Lavonte David or Nigel Bradham would be just as good as anyone we select in the first round, in my opinion.

tackles is an overrated measurement of how good a player is anyway

To me, OL and DL are infinitely more important than CB and WR as far as the draft is converned, so I'd be happy with two of those guys listed.

The best teams are the ones that are built through the trenches. OL and DL are the most important position in football other then the QB position. We get a good DT that adds pressure like Devon Still it will make the secondary that much better because they don't have to cover for along time. Also not saying we don't need a #2 CB because we do, but I just fill that it's just better CB talent in the second round. I'm happy if we take OL or DL with our first pick.

My top picks right now are these guys.

1. Devon Still DT

2. Johnthan Martin OT

3. Dre kirkpatrick CB

4. David Decastro OG

5. Riley Rieff

I really feel it comes down between these guys.
