Does getting to the playoffs mean you are a better team than ones that didn't?

Whether its limping into the playoffs because another team lays down (Jets v Colts), or a team winning their weak division (Broncos v Steelers) - does it matter how a team gets in as long as they get in?

Does getting blown out the first game mean the team shouldn't have been there, or were they SO unprepared (coaching / execution) that changes HAVE to be made? (Panthers v Cardinals, Falcons v Giants)

Is there ANY credit to a pro bowler? I hear all the time how so and so is 'pro bowl' caliber, but don't we KNOW that the pro bowl is a popularity contest? If we know / acknowledge the best don't always get in why does (media) continue to drop the title on people?

What in your opinion makes an MVP? I listen to the regurgitation of media and they crown Rogers as MVP, but here is Brees breaking a QB record that has stood for years. Is it 'without Rogers' the Packers are nothing? Couldn't that be said for Brees if not more so? I think of Maurice Jones Drew and couldn't you argue he is an MVP to BE so valuable to that team? Or (ugh) even The Golden Calf of Bristol - without him where are the Broncos?

Lastly - the one that irked me all season - was the 'debate' of the Red Rifle as ROY. The line Bungles fans kept putting out was the Bengals were 'winning' and thus Dalton deserved it because his team went to the playoffs. ROY to me is about individual stats and not team stats. We (Huddlers) made the argument that if the Panthers had the Bungles defense we would be in the playoffs too - where the Bungles countered that if Dalton had our offense they would have done even better. (I kinda of get that with our #1 running game in the league and a great Oline, but that AJ Green is a beast. I'd still take Smitty but AJ is on the way up).

pro-bowler doesn't carry the same weight it did.

fan vote carries too much weight. fans being allowed to vote as many times as they want made it bad enough. now they can install imacro and let their computer vote a million times automatically for them. it just makes it even more silly. teams with larger fanbases or players on hyped teams have an unfair advantage.

two of the top teams players not dilutes the talent pool.

it's a popularity contest and a boring meaningless game.

pro-bowl designation just isn't as impressive as it used to be. what makes that bad is that they are still every bit of the contractual headache for GMs they ever were. if you want your team to get better you don't want your players to get too expensive to keep or their contracts to be so large that it keeps other talented people from being retained or new talent being brought in.

Their are no "individual stats" in team sports. Teammates help each other out on each play and each win. Unless a curtain player can block run throw and catch all by himself.

I count wins as the most important judge of a quarterback. And so does most people in the know. Its why joe Namath is held in higher regard over guys like Moon, Fouts and even Marino. Namath may have the worst stats in the hall of fame but he has a Superbowl ring and that trumps all.

I think you are confusing popularity and celebrity with respect (regard).

Moon, Fouts and Marino were all better QB's than Namath, and most people that know the sport understand why.

Yes because 95% of Pro Bowlers are still top-tier players even if there are a handful of snubs. And if fans weren't included, that number would go up.

Rodgers won more games than anyone and probably had a top 10ish season ever. Brees broke Marino's record with like 80 more completions. Marino had something like 33% more yards than the runner-up that year. He had like 15 more TDs than anyone ever. Rodgers' YPA was a yard higher than Brees' and had a better TD:INT ratio. Not even a debate if you ask me.
