BCS NCG: Bama vs LSU

I'll admit the current system is flawed but you cant say that OSU or any other team can beat or is better than LSU or Bama, just like we can't say that Bama or LSU is better than OSU. But what I can say is LSU and Bama both put the work in all season long and didn't lose to anyone like for instance ISU. but I have an extremely EXTREMELY hard time believing that LSU or Bama would lose to ISU.

I don't get why you guys are saying we shouldn't complain about the system.

Why can't we complain about the game and the system at the same time? Surely the best time to complain about the system is when it demonstrates abject failure to select the two best teams.

So pardon me for not searching back through all this, what two best teams are you advocating here, and why would Alabama have been excluded? (No way anyone could argue that LSU didn't deserve the shot here)

You are arguing that the system is flawed but also stating that under the current system they got it wrong because it's flawed. Those are 2 totally different arguments.

Also, you just said that you can't determine the 2 best teams in a 12 game season so how would you know who the best teams are?

Under the BCS system the system put the 2 best teams in the NCG. You can argue that we don't know who the two best teams but that argument goes in the system is flawed category.

Under the current system (or at least how I have been led to believe the current system works by people defending it), which as I've already said I believe is crap and doesn't tell you anything about who the best team is, I think it should probably have been LSU and OK State, since Alabama already lost to LSU (reg season is a playoff right?) and OK State won their conference. I would have complained about this also if LSU/OK State was close/bad and Bama dominated Stanford but I would have had less of a problem with the selection (besides the general problem I have with the entire process).

Under a decent system (not even ideal, but just an easy to implement system that would work with the current setup) then there would have been a +1 game where the winner of this game plays the winner of the fiesta bowl.

There's a reason why this is a poignant celebration...and it goes way deeper than it being the first time in 58 tries that ISU defeated an opponent ranked higher than #6 in the nation:

OSU had to win this game to stay in consideration (the drivers seat)....it didn't happen.

Look, I can get on board with a +1 system that allows for an additional game.....but I can't give a conference winner a pass over another team that has shown equal or better performance against powerful opponents. That's the rub and the crappy truth.... As much as it sucks that teams in weak conferences look strong with a conference title, very good teams appear weak without one....I don't have the answer there, but I hope they work towards one. (not implying anything pertaining to this year with my characterizations)

BTW, no way the Conference Championships or Bowl games are going away...too much money and too much prestige at stake there for teams that obviously know they aren't in the running for the overall title. Will the NCAA decide to extend the season even more? IDK....That was an awful long wait for the two teams that played tonight....

My ideal system would be to take the top 8 teams in the rankings (no automatic qualifiers at all) and have a 3 round playoff.

The rest of bowl season would go on as normal but would have to start a bit earlier (no reason to have 3 weeks off anyway), since they are all basically exhibitions anyway it doesn't matter that much.

And yeah the conference championships can stay also. They are fun and determine the winner of a conference even if it's not the best team in the conference.

I see the goal, but I doubt the controversy would die with this setup....for starters, rank and location of venue would play a huge role...
