BCS NCG: Bama vs LSU

HeatCheck

LSU was unquestionably the best team in college football. You really think that the other teams would have put this kind of dominating performance on them? The experts didn't think so.

What would have happened if LSU had smashed another team, which every expert felt was very possible? Would you be saying "Well gee, we just don't know what would have happened if Bama had played them"

You're just using hindsight to benefit the argument you had set in your mind before the game even began, which would only have changed-maybe, this is me giving you the benefit of the doubt-if the game was a 60-57 game, which just isn't SEC football. That isn't the way football works in this conference-it isn't the barometer by which teams are measured.

and you're using assumptions to support your claim.... nobody knows what LSU or Bama would have done to OSU because the game never happened....there's really no arguing that fact....

I don't remember Big 10 fans talking this way when everyone cried and forced Florida into the title game when it was a possibility that Ohio State was gonna play Michigan in the final.

Enjoy it while it lasts.

and you won't admit that having a championship game featuring two SEC teams makes that claim worthless because it hasn't been settled on the field....

:nopity: they won the NC 6 years in a row. i like Da U which is an ACC school. but i can sit here with an objective mind and say that the SEC is the top shelf of college ball.

The best 2 teams in ALL of college football played tonight. There was NO other team in the country that was even close. It was anything but boring unless you are not a football fan. Enjoy the hype I am not an SEC fan but that was a great game to watch to see plenty of future NFL players.:sifone:

Yes, piss poor offense is thrilling....

If you're talking about who should have been put in the NC game then I'd say LSU and OK State. Sure Alabama is clearly better than LSU but we didn't know that until tonight.

If you're including knowledge we gained tonight, then I'd say Alabama and OK State should have been in the championship game, even with LSU being undefeated.

But ideally we would have a +1 system anyway so we wouldn't have to worry about it, and Alabama would be playing OK State next (or rather this week since they probably would have played this game last week).

Except the world doesn't work that way. It doesn't matter if you think the system is flawed. Should it be changed in the future? Sure. But it wasn't going to be changed mid-season just so people didn't have to "suffer" through a defensive game. LSU was the best team in the country. Alabama was thought to be the second best by anyone who mattered. They proved tonight they belonged here. You're just using hindsight to aid your argument-once more-the world doesn't work that way. The voters got it right, and it was proved on the football field tonight.

That doesn't mean poo this year, notice how there's a big turnover every year in the SEC, the same thing happens in most of college football....

So a playoff system should have been implemented mid-season because an annoying group of people didn't like that two SEC teams were in the NC game.

Please tell me more.

Why do results of games determine who is the better team?

Bama was the better team tonight but that's not to say we didn't know they were better until tonight. They have the same makeup as the did when the originally faced LSU.

I personally felt that these two teams were the best two teams in CFB. Not because they have the best records but by watching them play. I always liked Bama better than LSU because I liked the reliability of their offense better.

But people are overreacting over this result. The same people that were claiming that Bama shouldn't be in the NCG are now saying LSU shouldn't be in and now OK ST.

These were the two best teams. LSU just got out-coached and Bama played their best game of the season, especially defensively. But don't take anything away from LSU and the team they have.

Actually I was pointing out that YOU are using hindsight by claiming that Alabama deserved it for being better than LSU. Alabama had already lost to LSU.

Really, LSU proved that the voters were right in selecting them as the #1 team? Because I didn't see it.

Just because experts say it doesn't make it 100% true. How do we know OK state wouldn't do the same to LSU that Alabama did to them?

You're only argument is stating that OK state, Stanford, or even the late November Oregon team couldn't handle each of these teams and I'm going back to my argument that we will truly not know.

actually the assumption I was referring to (as if it wasn't obvious enough) was that Alabama was head and shoulders above OSU so they deserved a rematch....

    • Hope Koch recovers (he’s stated numerous times he doesn’t like to be called “koochie”) soon. But he does not instill confidence in the crease. I don’t have any confidence in any of our goalies, healthy or not. Andersen when available gives us the best chance to win but he’s never available.    Team has to explore trade options soon.
    • Respectfully, I completely disagree. Last year we were:  32nd in Sacks. 32nd in Turnovers.  32nd in Rushing TDs allowed  29th in Scoring.  We were absolutely atrocious on defense last year and that was with a full stable of weapons in Derek Brown, Frankie Luvu and Brian Burns that played all 17 games.  Using yards per game as a metric to guage our success lacks the context that because our offense was so inept teams were not driving the length of the field, they were starting at their 40-50 yard line.  This year, our Defense ranks:  31st in Sacks. Tied for 19th in Turnovers  31st in Rushing TDs allowed 32nd in Scoring  His defense fails to get pressure, fails to turn the ball over and fails to stop the run. Three things you absolutely have to do to be successful in the NFL.  Denver meanwhile has not missed a beat without him.  If another team wants to hire him as a HC and the Panthers get two 3rds for it I'll wish him the best and pack his bags myself.
