Stew says he'd love to stay a panther long term

So there you have it.

Williams will be here for at least 3 more years. Now, make the argument that we need to sign Stewart to a big contract also and let them split time.

And while you are at it, name any other team in the NFL who has two 1st rounders (RB's) and resigns both of them to mega deals. Go ahead, we are waiting.

Name any other team in the NFL that has a running game as effective as the Carolina Panthers.

another misinformed fan.

Do you actually follow this team, or just pretend?

Not just me, I am saying when you address anyone, you come off as an ass. I understand the be what you are deal.

You go from acting like you have knowledge of our cap and all the players we can sign and then come back with the lame "Hurney knows what he is doing" Do we have tons of money or what?

what was the context of my response?

A fan, spoke incorrect facts about two past players...as if it was fact.

Far from it. So that's why i asked. Do ya follow the team?

I guess i could have just told him to stop talking out of his ass. That would have been more polite, right?

Rolls my eyes.

I know how this front office runs. You should to. They've always offered good contracts to keep their own. Whether or not the players accepted them or not, doesn't come into that.

Hurney has made space when needed....and he will again.

Cap space will also go up.

only 1 Cam Newton in the NFL. How effective Carolina was...was largely do to him. I assume you are again referecning the Football Outsiders stat.

If Hurney gave Williams a contract that Carolian couldn't reasonably part with him at age 30 or 31....then Hurney should retire. You don't put NFL RBs into contracts where you can't part with them in there 30s. Bottom line.

I'm pretty direct. I don't sugar coat thing. I wish more people were direct.

A lot of people don't like direct people, and will take them as being assholes, or having attitude.

I don't coddle those people.

Lots of people are bold behind a keyboard. Most are in junior high. Just think as an adult, you could act like you would in a room full of Panther fans, not talking crap under the guise of "I don't coddle"

That stat says the Panthers run game was the best running game ever. While that's neat I don't know if I would personally call it the best ever.

But the stats I'm using now are much more accessable and less byzantine.

http://stats.washingtonpost.com/fb/tmleaders.asp?year=&type=Rushing&range=NFL&rank=009

Panthers are #1 in Yards per attempt, rushing touchdowns, rushing first downs, and first downs per carry.

Cam is important, but so are having 2 great backs.

If we continue to run the same offense (read option esque), Stewart is a must keep. He excels in this type of spread offense (look back to his success in Oregon).

I think he is one of the most important pieces to the offensive puzzle and would be absolutely shocked if he is let go.

I think with Chud (remains to be seen), an offense of Cam, Dwill and a Darren Sproles type would be even more potent than what we have now. The coaches are already expressing the need for a scat back. Is that going to be in addition to the two big guns?

Outside of the fact that there aren't a lot of "Darren Sproles type" players out there. You'd be taking a gamble weakening a significant part of your game also putting yourself an injury away from a problematic situation. Darren Sproles is having a great season, but lets not forget he's been sharing carries with Thomas and Ingram all season, Matthews and Tolbert last season, Tomlison and Turner before that. We definitely could use a player with similar abilities as Sproles, but not at the expensive of what we've invested in paying dwill while knowing what we invested drafting stew.

Again. It seems to be a bit of a no brainer to me but who knows I guess.

let's say we could land the actual Sproles......

Newton, Stewart, Sproles > Newton, Williams, Sproles.

Stewart is the RB who runs the read option.....and that is what brings Cam's ability into play. Stewart is also the one who pass protects.

D Will has been in on quite a few read option plays as well. I get what your saying though. Future with Stew > than future with dwill. I agree with this in principle, but I don't see how it will be too much of a problem to keep them both. I think this will be quite a telling offseason for the future direction of the team, as its tailored to Cam.

But we have ALREADY paid Dwill. If it were reversed, I would say trade Dwill and keep Stwart. The Panthers signed Dwill to a long term deal. Your choice is to also pay Stwart big money, and then have two Highly paid backs, or trade Stewart, pick up draft picks and use the extra money to sign FA.

Worst move would be to cut DWill which would cost more than to keep him
