Stew says he'd love to stay a panther long term

Stew didn't have to respond if he didn't want to, but instead he did. And I think he really means it. Stew and dwill are really genuine players.

Sure he wants to stay here.....stay here if he gets a big fat deal (and our organzation hands those out)

The love fest and slobbering are a bit much.

The Steelers, Packers, and Pats will let guys go and not resign guys who are too expensive. The steelers used a back against Denver yesterday that you hardley knew, but we know better here in Panther Land.

That is why the Steelers, Pats and Packers are in the playoffs every year, but hey, we sell a lot of jerseys

Morgan / Witherspoon.

another misinformed fan.

Do you actually follow this team, or just pretend?

Morgan's contract had nothing to do with witherspoon turning down a good contract offer from the panthers, to sign a MLB contract with the rams, that he failed to perform well enough for that contract.

si assume you feel getting rid of stew will improve our defense?

You shouldn't have posted. Seriously.

You should read before posting. Seriously. I said earlier that with the money you tie up in a stable of running backs, you could instead get a FA on D.

Seriously

love that thinking.

Stew's contract isn't up. He's quite affordable.

Even when he gets his extension, it won't prevent the panthers from signing a defensive FA that they targeted.

yes, and when Stewart's current contract is up (and you shouldn't pay a RB until his existing deal is up)....Williams would be 30.

Name a 30-32 year old RB playing the NFL.....that was playing for the team he is now on 3 years go? They are depth and situational players at that time. Williams will be no different. You don't put your ground game in the hands of a 30 yr old RB in today's NFL. They are on your team for depth and leadership.

Kevin Faulk

Maurice Morris

Fred Jackson

You kinda have a haughty ass attitude when "trying" to make a point. I notice wherever you go, you have the need to disparage the poster before you make you wise words known.

Obviously, Stewarts contract is not up, if it were, we could not trade him.

Since we are not in good shape cap wise, why don't you enlighten all the idiots on this board with the bountiful dollars the Panthers will come upon to sign another part time RB who will make more than Williams. I know you have all the details and you are just wanting us to beg it out of you. A man with your wisdom has us all just waiting.

When you are finished, you might want to send your Capology notes to Hurney. Funny, but he seems to go by the league rules. Let us all know how we can sign extra defensive players and all the part time RB's we want.

And don't forget to call us names before you enlighten us.

solution is easy (pending Stewart remains healthy)

Give Stewart a deal he deserves but wait until after the 2012 season.

Cut a 30 yr old DeAngelo pending he won't restructure and take much less money (which he probably wouldn't).

that simple.

Yep. That simple. Damn you should be a GM, especially in Pittsburgh. They didnt need a capable number #2 RB yesterday did they?

everyone keeps saying Williams' contract is front loaded.....yet does anyone know the specifics?

I would love for someone to actually post what it will cost to have a 30, 31, etc. year old Williams on the roster under his current deal. Better RBs than DeAngelo have been cut at 30.

You keep saying we dont need both of these running backs. How ill-informed you are.

So you think it is a good idea for a franchise to bank it's running game on Wlliams being an exception like Fred Jackson?

They have, it's not if we think it's a good idea. The team does and has already banked on him being productive for at least 2 more seasons, maybe more.

I think we banked on it last year when we gave him the big deal

Yep, it's not like Carolina can just cut him the next few years with out being in absolute cap hell because of his contract.

As for the Dwill contract, these are the only known numbers over his contract. Next year his Base is fully guaranteed. (Since that's a cap hit of 5 million no matter what, it would cost the team roughly 17 million in a cap hit to cut him before next season. The season after that would be at least 9.6 million in a cap hit. Then 6.4 million before year 4. Now if you do a bit of math, you see that after the 2012 season Carolina will have paid Dwill

14.9 million of the 43 million. (11.4 of that is fully guaranteed or in signing bonus over the first 2 years) Over the last three years the team owes him roughly 28 million dollars.

18.4 of that is in Base or 6.13 each season on average or a cap hit average of 9.3 million over the last 3 years of the deal. It would only be cost effective to cut him in year 4 of the deal. That would save the team roughly 3 million dollars.

Base - 3.5, 5, 6.13, 6.13, 6.13

Bonus - 3.2, 3.2, 3.2, 3.2, 3.2

Trade him to Cincy for the 21st pick and act like an organization who is committed to winning.

I agree with the idea we as panthers fans fall in love with players I would love to keep j stew but deangelos contract hinders that we were all in love with deangelo he got paid now a lot of us wish we would not have kept him I believe we can get good value trading j stew for maybe 2 picks 2nd and 4th or best case scenario a 1st round pick our new offense does not need two backs like these two ,deangelo and a scat back like Rivera said that's all we need

    • BPA! If that happens to be D-line, sobeit. FA has to figure in somewhere as well.
    • Chinn’s current stats are in line with his stats with Panthers before Evero arrived, and yes he regressed from his rookie year where he looked like a game changer. He is not putting up drastically different numbers now he just looks better on a winning team. We were all disappointed with his development even prior to Evero but he was definitely a misfit in the 3-4 defense.
