Braylon Edwards to the Panthers???

Recommended Posts

I'll repost this from the other thread just in case anyone has any doubts.

Edwards has by far the worst catch per thrown to percentage of any #1 WR in the NFL. Look at the top WRs, they all have percentages in the 60-70% range, Edwards is 39%. Here's a comparison to Smitty from 2008.

Edwards, Thrown to: 138 - Catches: 55 - Percentage: 39%

Smitty, Thrown to: 129 - Catches: 78 - Percentage: 60%

LOL Moose has a 60% catch rate as well, so if all three saw the same number of passes both Smitty and Moose would catch over 50% more balls than Edwards. Consider that Edwards YPC is marginally better than Moose's (15.8 compared to 14.2) and I don't think I'd even want him as our #2 WR, much less be willing to give up draft picks to get him.

Also, I'll believe that 1st round offer from an "undisclosed team" when I see the deal finalized. I think that "report" is probably just the Browns attempt to inflate their asking price for him.

Well Charlotte has to become a big money market one day right?! If I'm any kind of businessman, looking 10-15 years down the road - if we're going to become a Pittsburgh like team - we're going to have to bring in caliber players who will demand the spot light and make plays! We have to remember sometimes as we're looking for players who supposely fit that "mode" - that football is still and always will be a business.

Pittsburgh has always been a run first team. But also has a passing game to match. Not to mention a taunting defense. We need to develop our defense and passing game as well if we're going to be anywhere near where Pittsburgh is.

Adding another WR wouldn't help much when we have Sir Picksalot at QB.

Right, we don't have an elite QB like Brady or Manning so we might as well cut all our WRs. See ya later Smitty and Moose. We're a run first team anyway. Just line up with DWill, Hoover and 9 offensive linemen. We'll call it the Jakesuxballz formation.

Yea considering Jake is one of the worst starting QBs in the NFL. Definatley in the 20s.

You realize I was being sarcastic right? Please go back to your smack thread about how the Bucs will be better than us next year after losing their head coach, DC, starting QB and missing the playoffs by losing to the Raiders.

we don't have enough cap room to sign any of the 100s of random dumbasses in this forum, much less Braylon Edwards.

actually we're going to have to cut you to make room.

addition by subtraction really

    • Because being a pauper in the NFL is still making a king's ransom. NFL vet min is roughly 18x the median salary in the U.S.
    • At some point I sense it's gonna create some hate and locker room cancer between these cap hogs and the rest of the players. When the top 6 or 7 players take 80% of the cap, the other 40 plus guys are gonna get pissed off, especially when they're still only winning 5 or 6 games. Why put everything on the line to play with guys who are only in it for themselves?
    • I am just spitballing here--let it play out and I will go to bed: Let's say Mahome's contract comes due and he insists on $100m per season.  Is there a team that would find the money to pay it?  Would KC? It was in 2015 (I think) when Cam was getting $20m and it was hard to grasp.  In the past decade, the price of a franchise QB has tripled.  Then the next QB bases his contract on the Mahomes deal.  The trend has been the last QB contract is the highest.  I see nothing to discourage that trend--Greed can destroy a league.  Personally, I don't watch baseball any more, and the NBA has a small group of about 8 teams that appear on national TV and they have players who make more than some eastern block countries.  Ticket prices go up---and we are headed for pay-per-view very soon across the board-
