Why was Jake considered such a saint but now its OK ro bash on J Stew?

Seriously. There was so much debate on here about Delhomme and he was constantly defended. Now, we have posts cropping up about trading the second leading rusher in panthers history?! Don't get me wrong, J Stew has his supporters [me for one], but the animosity everyone fired back with when Jake was called it is nothing like this is.

I get the nature of the position is radically different, but other than that, why doesn't J Stew have as ferocious supporters as Jake did; and why did Jake detractors get bashed so much more than J Stew's detractors are now?

Im not trying to make another J Stew thread, so keep the discussion aimed towards the actual question. Have a nice day:D

IMO, overall most people who have endorsed splitting up Double Trouble the past year or so......believed it was Williams that should go after his 2012 season (cut). They also argued Williams should of been traded before the season. Not a knock on Williams at all suggesting that.

I can't name one poster who has spoken negative about Stewart in general. Or Williams. They are great RBs....and probably intereact with the fanbase better than any players in franchise history.

The RB debates aren't about how good Stewart/Williams are or how much they are liked. Simply different takes on how a team should be built. It would be great to have a LB corp of Beason, Davis, Greene, Mills, Lathom, Morgan, etc. all in their primes on the same team....but eventually you would have to say instead of a having so many great LBs we should invest that money elsewhere.

There is a chance I would like this post a little better if it were not a new thread but a rebuttal in one of the "trade J-Stew" threads that were mentioned.

In other words.. wtf OP? DUMB

There is a chance I would like this post a little better if it were not in a football related forum, but instead a new thread on post etiquette in the lounge.

wanting to get rid of a liability vs. not wanting to stockpile too much talent at the RB position........isn't really similar.

Some would consider holding on to Stew a liability because of the projected trade value we could possibly get to potentially improve.

And maybe some are right, "bashing" may not be the most accurate word, but you all get my drift.

Um, fans wanting to get rid of them is the basic similarity.

The reasons are not really similar.

Fans wanted to get rid of Jake because he was playing like crap.

No one really wants to get rid of Stewart, but a relative few think we could get a lot for him. If we could get a Herschel Walker type deal for him, I would say go for it. Barring that though, he should remain a Panther unless he signs somewhere else when he is a free agent.

I agree with most of you on this board. I support D-Will 100%, but I also support J-Stew 100%. And we don't need both of them. In my honest opinion, I believe that J-Stew is the back that should be starting due to his overall abilities. He definitely is a better receiver out of the backfield, a better blocker, and is more of a threat in my eyes. D-Will had some great years here, and still has a good career ahead of him...but if we trade one, I would say D-Will.

I also think it's great that we have two outstanding RB's. The fact that they split carries makes them much younger than they actually are. Williams doesn't have anywhere near the wear and tear a normal RB in his late 20's would have. Both players have a ton of elite years left in them. We would be stupid as hell to trade either of them. They may not be putting up elite rushing yardage or TD's, but just look at the yards per carry. That tells the entire story. If we were to lose one of them our efficiency would go way down the drain.
