Keep Armanti as emergency QB

It wouldn't hurt my feelings to see AE as the emergency QB necessarily - but the kid just doesn't seem to have what it takes to make it as a starter at whatever position you want to call him in this league.

I was on his side when Fox was mad about having him and didn't give him a chance. I was on his side when Rivera came in and made it clear we would look at all receivers to see if they were any good. Remained on his side throughout the year hoping that a year of playing with a coach who did not resent his even being here would help him develop. He lost me when he failed to develop. He obviously isn't showing anything at WR in workouts because if he had he'd have seen play time when Legadu went down (Rivera admitted that LaFell was in the dog house - remember). And he clearly isn't a PR / KR in this league because he lacks explosive acceleration.

I feel like it's time to cut bait. It's not his fault we gave up the pick we did for him and that doesn't enter into my train of thought; I just feel like the AE experiment needs to be over.

Yeah I don't buy the selling tickets/jerseys/App fans angle either. I think they thought he was worth a shot, and who knows-- if we don't draft Cam maybe he would have gotten more looks at Wildcat.

I have a friend who works in the front office and they had info that three other teams were going to take him before Carolina moved up for him. Might have all been smoke screens, but that's the info they had.

He'll find a job somewhere, be it elsewhere in the league or up North. I'd love him to be a star here but that's looking more and more like just wishful thinking.

I am a App State graduate (Class of '10) & I've watched AE play football live for four years so I know what I'm talking about. Unless AE begins to produce DRAMATICALLY next year, he'll be cut by training camp. Drafting him in the 3rd round sacrificing a 2nd rounder as a PR/WR was not a very smart move. He's fantastic at Wildcat but that's it. Sorry Hurney & my fellow App State buds, but Armanti is not a PR/WR & wasn't worth a 3rd rounder & future 2nd rounder.

If you were really an honest app state fan, you would have known this thread wasn't necessary because no one cares about AE anymore.

OP was just making a point that not all App State folks are homers and can see Armanti is struggling. A lot of people do care though around here because of his national championships and local connection. He is a class act that brought national attention to little Boone NC when App beat Michigan. To say no one cares is just flat wrong.

When will everyone realize that AE was JR's pick? JR is a Wofford grad. Armanti dominated Wofford during his time at App and JR noticed this. JR wanted Armanti at whatever cost it took...and it was a lot more than what they should have given up.

I love AE. I was at App during his time there and was amazed at some of the things he did on the field. Its just not been a good situation for him between expectations due to where he was drafted, learning two new positions he's never played before, and John Fox benching him as an FU to JR.

At least he took the initiative in the offseason to better himself, which he did. Hopefully this offseason he can do the same and show us why he was drafted. If not, then yeah let him go as much i hate to say it

Love that people get this worked up about the AE pick. He's the 5th WR and an average punt returner. He has improved, and has the potential to become a solid returner and slot receiver. He will never be a starting caliber wideout. That said, people act like this was the worst draft pick in history. Everybody that thinks good GMs turn every second and third round pick into starting players needs to take the time to look at some other teams' draft histories and not just ours.
