Should we resign Shockey?

Only on the cheap. You have to ask yourself an honest question. When shock catches a pass do you think "He might take it all the way"? You don't. This team is young. We need to develop talent for the long haul. Trade back and get dwayne allen our of clemson

I prefer to ask myself this: "When Shockey catches a pass do you think it will be for a first down". More than anyone on this team except Steve Smith I do.

Sometimes I wonder if there is a new Huddle requirement to huff glue before posting.

I remember reading an article about him wanting to stay with the Panthers so I say why not sign him for 2 more years? You saw how productive we were with two great TEs

there isn't a valid reason should he not expect an outrageous contract..

Given that Olsen has a long-term deal and that we just extended Barnidge, I think there is a real possibility that Shockey walks.

This is his LAST contract and he will look to get paid as much as possible.

Love having him....just preparing if he leaves.

It really does come down to the numbers and if he is willing to give us a discount. We dont have loads of cap space and offense is not a glaring problem.

New to the Huddle, so if posting this type thing is frowned upon, sorry, but it did help me objectively look at what we have at the position.

Year G GS Rec Yds Y/R TD Lng R/G Y/G Yds TD

J. Shockey (2011)

2011 15 13 37 455 12.3 4 29 2.5 30.3 455 4

G.Olsen (2011)

2011 16 13 45 540 12.0 5 44 2.8 33.8 540 5

W. Walls (last 3 Years at CAR)

2000 8 8 31 422 13.6 2 54 3.9 52.8 422 2

2001 14 14 43 452 10.5 5 25 3.1 32.3 452 5

2002 14 14 19 241 12.7 4 27 1.3 16.1 241 4

Maybe not an apples to apples comparison. Walls doubled his average stats in the 1999 season and had a couple more earlier with 600 to 700 yards. So did Shockey at NOR and NYG On the other hand, in 2011 we have a new offense scheme, greater variety of receivers (targets), and a running QB in the RZ. They are as similar as they are different, except for the "fire" Shockey brings that has to rub off on teammates, especially the younger ones. Shockey and Olsen, who is younger, compare favorably. Together, we have a formidable pair of TE's, great for those tough long 3rds and in the RZ. Add Shockey's presence and attitude on top and the answer is: He is a definite keeper as is Olsen.

you have to ask yourself an honest question:

are you f**king stupid or have you missed the TDs where he has broken 1-3 tackles to make it into the endzone?

I love internet gangstas. Punks like to talk big on message boards. Anyway, to further the discussion, I think shock is great for the team but this team is young and building. 2 years of development for dwayne allen or 2 years of shock getting first downs on most of his catches. There are a lot of times that he should have gotten a lot more out of his catches. I would rather have the first down with YAC. Remember what jermichael finley did to us?

Shock and Smitty have the attitude the rest of the offense needs IMO. Also I think Cam has it too but that has yet to be seen. Our RB's are a bit more fun-loving but their play speaks for itself. I would like to see Shock stay and have his attitude rub off a bit on Barnidge and Olsen.

I love people who can't contribute anything to a conversation but an irrational opinion and labeling people "internet gangstas"...

when our team's BIGGEST need is defense and Greg Olsen (a TE that can stretch the field like Finley) is already on the roster: You sign your valuable, productive veteran and address it later..

you don't get rid of solid production for potential just to make your madden experience more enjoyable... especially when Barnidge's contact is up and Shockey was the major asset..

basically what I'm saying is, if you think "do you think he can run for a TD every time?" is the question our coaching staff is asking, you may be off the charts clueless at this juncture...
