On the field accomplishments and stats do not always truly reflect a players contribution to the team as a whole.

Barnidge isn't going to take up Shockey's production.. and I don't think Olsen is either.

Shockey should be brought back, without a doubt. that is unless we grab some high potential player in the draft that will be an above average threat on day 1..

He's a great motivator and fire starter on our offense as long as he's not asking for an outrageous price (which I doubt since he's not going to be in huge demand). He adds to our team and we need that.

Not at all sure why Barnidge got this deal....

12/8/2011: Signed a two-year, $1.245 million contract. The deal included a $50,000 signing bonus.

2011: $555,000

2012: $615,000 (+ $25,000 workout bonus)

2013: Free Agent

Shockey did more for Cam Newton on the sidelines than anyone on the team. There was Coach Shula and Shockey. He'll never see a long-term contract, but this team has carried 3 TEs since Walls left and there's no reason he can't get a 1-year deal.

I say we definitely should bring him back. He is a great reliable back up to Greg Olsen. Shockey isn't as good as he used to be but he doesn't have to be. Plus he would be a good mentor for Barnidge if we still want to see if the guy has potential.

To my knowledge he is the only player on the Panthers roster with a Superbowl ring. I was surprised to see him be the kind of teammate he was and if he wants to be in Carolina, sign him to a 2 year contract and consider the TE position set for next year.
