yeah, you are letting Cam's unique ability skew things.

So do designed quarterback runs not count as rushing the ball?

QB driven yes. Passing no. We have a very good passing attack but we are still a running team, and you can't just assume you can replace one extremely important part of that rushing attack with someone else and have it be just as effective.

The reason it's so effective, especially the 2rb option formations, is that all 3 of the players in the backfield have the ability to destroy you and they can all do it in different ways.

Carolina RBs

2011 - 1633 yards

2010- 1681 yards

2009 - 2419 yards

2008 - 2379 yards

2011 - was the best offense in Panther history. So yeah, we are a passing/QB driven team now.....not the other way around.

you have to count newton's rushing yards in there.

well...you don't have to but if you want to be taken seriously in the discussion you probably should. :D

u build and sign players to the strength of your team. Our strength is running the ball with the threat to pass/run option. Priorities on the run game mean rb then oline then te then wr.

I may just want to nitpick here, but if you have a stellar OLine, you can plug in RBs and get 1,000 yards from them...

look at Chris Johnson this year... they changed up their blocking philosophy and CJ didn't do poo for the 1st half of the year...

that is true, but we are much closer to having 2 stellar rb's than a steller o-line.

you are arguing that someone is trying to take away one aspect, when they are simply saying one helps the other.

Cam's threat as a passer keeps the defense honest. his ability to run magnifies that.

both are valuable. as Rayzor has explained. no one is taking anything away from anyone or anything.

then again, maybe I glazed over some point y'all were raising because this conversation seems rather pointless.. you know, since no one is saying fug a run game.. lol

and that philosophy must change.. spending early picks and large amounts of money on the easiest position to draft is a complete waste.

but we'll pay Stew.... and after that, I really expect our FO to reanalyze spending 1st round picks on RBs...

the only reason we have Jonathan Stewart instead of Ray Rice or Matt Forte is due to drafting Stew at 13 instead of trading back, grabbing Otah and picking up Ray Rice or Matt Forte in the 2nd..

but that's what happens when you try to save a man's job as a last ditch effort.

CRA is trying to say we're a passing team now. I was contradicting him.

He literally said that suggesting we maximize the strength of our run game makes one John Fox.

If that's not "fug a run game" I don't know what is.

We are not a running team. We are a passing team. The offense revolves around Cam Newton....NOT around the running game.

Ron Rivera has said it enough times that I don't need to try to argue it. The offense isn't built around a running attack.

We are a QB driven team now. That should be painfully obvious. DeAngleo Williams has a huge contract (and is on the backside of his career)....and he averages how many touches a game? He overall is the 2nd best RB on the team.

Great depth is flat out better served in other areas....and not the RB position. Best redzone runner on the team isn't even a RB. No point having a SUPER backfield on a team being built around Cam. Talent/money better served elsewhere. After 2012.....Double Trouble shouldn't exist. We are already in a fugged up scenario b/c now Williams is untradeable.
