Gettis Vs Lafell

Neither was in the doghouse, Rivera just wanted them out the training room, and on the field.

If anything, I see us going with more 3 WR sets, instead of the 2TE sets, but I don't see Gettis taking the #2 WR spot from Lafell next year, because of Lafell's blocking ability.

I agree with Snake, I think Gettis will be a big help for Smitty. It's time we let some of them young boys take the top off the defense, while Smitty run some of those underneath routes.

We still need a playmaker at WR opposite Smith. We have some solid role players. If Lafell continues to improve, he should be a good #2. If Gettis improves, he could be better. He is a bigger, better, athlete.

The things I like about Lafell--his hands improved. Actually, you could say that about Smith. What really happened? Timing and Chemistry. The ball was where it was supposed to be when it was supposed to be there.

I think LaFell could be a #1 WR in due time. He may never be like Smitty but I could definitely see him turning into another Boldin.

The dude just always makes plays. He's got enough of each accent a WR should have to move the chains. He won't burn you but he can beat you deep, or get open, he catch, he blocks well. He's got just enough of everything at his disposal. JOAT type WR, reminds me of Moose except a little faster.

Gettis and LaFell havent show me anything unbelievable.

if BLACKMON fall to us at either 8 or 9th pick.

it should be a LOCK for us or i will cut my head off

Brandon LaFell caught 600+ yards last season on less than 40 receptions and in only 6 starts playing, inexplicably, behind Legendu. I consider it highly likely that had LaFell been starting all season he would have challenged for 800-1000 yards pretty easily. He's not a scrub. He's not a rookie that we have penciled into the lineup for no reason. He has 74 catches and 1,000+ yards in two seasons, one of which he played for the worst QB in the league that year and the other when he was buried on the depth chart at times behind coach's favorite hustler.

I would put money down on the over under for LaFell at 750 yards next season and take the over barring injury. That goes double if we don't resign Shockey.

Smith Blackmon LaFell Gettis Nannee

Just dreaming, I like our WR corps. I'm ready to throw in the towel on the AE experiment. Keep Pilares as depth and KR.

I could get behind that WR group. After Blackmon I like Mo. Sanu. He reminds me of Moose with a bit of Julio Jones mixed in. Sanu broke all of Larry Fitzgerald's records. He would come in a later round though. We sure need some defensive guys more though.

don't challenge the players' collective ability to get hurt on this team

It is pretty remarkable how many big catches LaFell has hauled in during his limited snaps over the last couple years. Last years Browns game? His TD against GB was on 3rd down. He caught the deep ball that kept our last drive going against GB over two defenders. There are plenty more plays, but I can not remember them all. I think Carolina may have something special in LaFell.

I personally think Gettis is getting lost in all of this because he has taken a year off.

I like both LaFell and Gettis and not going to get caught up in the numbers. Both will have similar numbers IMO.

They are different types of receivers. Lafell is a possession receiver while Gettis is someone you put on the outside for mismatches with his speed and size.

I don't think Gettis is going to get lost in anything. We only have 3 professional quality receivers anyway: Smitty, Lafell and Gettis. Gettis will be a strong part of the offense next year, right alongside Smitty and Lafell.

To answer the OP I think Lafell will be listed as #2 but he and Gettis will probably see roughly equal work, at least by the second half of the season anyway.
