Name specific players for offseason Panther targets

I'm hoping Matt Kalil dramatically falls to us so we can kick Gross to RT and move Otah RG. Talk about a beast o-line. Spend our FA money on defense, we need ready to go experience on defense, I'm tired of waiting on guys to develop.

Brownback got hurt this season. No way Kalil passes by the Rams, a team that once drafted an O-lineman #1.

1. Dream Scenario...trade with cinncy

Draft: 1st Round- Quinton Couples and Dontari Poe

2nd Round: Best Corner available

4th Round: Keenan Robinson (insurance policy maybe 3-4 linebacker)

5th Round: Scat back, returner, or special teams depth.

Offseason: Restructure Gross, Warton, TD, Release ron edward, mare,

Should leave enough cap room to sign Laron Landry, and the rest of our own free agents worth signing....

2012 Starting Lineup

Offense:

OL- Gross, Warton, Kallil, Harengadner/Bell, Otah

TE- Olsen, Barnige, Hopefully Shockey if hes a good price

Qb- Obviously

RB- Obviously

Wr- Smith, Lafell, Gettis, Resign Nene if it makes sense

Defense:

DT- Poe, Couples

DE- Hardy, CJ

LB- Beason, Anderson, TD

CB- Gamble, 2nd rounder, or Hogan

Saftey- Godfrey, Landry

2. More Realistic Scenerio

Draft: Trade up draft claiborne

2nd round: say bye bye to our second round pick

rest of the draft stays the same

Offseason is essentially the same

2012 Starting Line Up

DT- Try the experimental rotation of Shirley, kerase, fua, mclain, neblet, hope for the best

LB- Same

CB- Gamble, Claiborne (Dang!!!!!!)

Saftey- Godfrey, Landry (Dang!!!! best secondary in the league maybe)

Theres holes in both situations but its hardly as bad as if we draft am offensive player in the first and end up with an average defensive line and below average secondary....

If we added just 1 starting caliber FA each season our team would be in the playoffs each year. Our drafts are not bad but you dont always win when you spin the wheel. In reality if we can keep our good players from last year and add a starting CB and LB to our defense then we have a playoff team. Not many teams can say that.

i think we can get both of those in the draft, actually.

i agree that the goal should be 1 starting caliber FA pick and i would add 1 starting caliber draft pick each year to help us become and stay legit contenders.

And why would two so-so experiences with players erase the benefits of having guys like Brentson Buckner or Mark Fields or Ricky Proehl? Or even Delhomme? The problem with that mentality is it lends people to think there's nothing worth going into FA for. I don't want to abuse FA because that doesn't work either, but some pickups that don't cost a lot can become invaluable presences.

There are options out there. And many of them aren't expensive. Adding Naanee and Shockey, even Greg Olsen helped this offense rebound in a hurry, and two of them cost barely anything. If we want the defense to make the same kind of improvement this offseason, we're going to have to take the same approach, and it's not going to break our bank. It'll help making decisions during the draft easier as well. I don't mind having guys grow because you need that a lot, but let's not overdo it to the point it's costing us wins in 2012. This year was a development year. Come November, I don't want to see us still giving up 150 yards against the run every game because Fua is starting and he still needs to "grow into the position and learn how to wreak havoc at the point of attack".

And lol Wahle wasn't even a great fit to begin with. He was one of the best pulling guards in the league when we signed him to block for a north/south running philosophy.

I didn't say not to sign FAs. I was saying that there is more to signing FA than just how good and what position a guy plays. Kris Jenkins was a great player but never was a good fit in the locker room. Most had no problem with the FO trading Jenkins because of this. All I am saying is the principles are probably used when bring guys in and for good reason. Davis was a great big name pickup in 2003 and seemed to also be a great locker room fit as well. We need to find more of those types of FA.

yea, but in most cases it's impossible to predict how they'll fit in a locker room until they actually are in there, unless it's obvious what you're going to get (Randy Moss),

jeremy shockey was regarded by almost everybody (except me lol) as a locker room cancer before we picked him up.

He was regarded as such by fans, much less so by teammates. He had a good rep in New Orleans, but Graham is just so good that Shockey was superfluous.
