Silence on Peppers' ordeal

Kevin Greene

Recommended Posts

“The current silence on the Peppers thing is deafening,” said agent Ken Harris, who represents Allen. “There has to be something going on right now that we don't know about.

“The silence is the biggest clue.”

Quite plausible.

Also completely speculative.

It's still just theory that something is happening in the background, so I wouldn't get too excited. It's also entirely possible that there's silence on all sides because nothing is happening.

To analyze when and where you want to trade him. It's too early now to trade for a pick when we don't even know if the player is likely to be available.

But isn't this viewpoint completely flawed? How can we trade him during the draft since he will not have signed with us yet?

silence is good? I didn't have to click the article to know this is typical Gantt garbage.

hilarious

you should have an open mind and read it. decent insight from an agent involved in a situation just like this last year.

wait...who am i telling this to? open mind?

50-50 chance.

silence means something or nothing is happening. kind of a 'duh' statement but i would much rather have silence than a media soap opera.

the problem with this situation is predominately with peppers agent. is he working to try and find a situation or is he sitting by the phone and hoping for some team to come calling? 50-50 chance here of either one happening as well.

Good point...So then this would be a stall on the Panthers part rather than the part of another team if we are the one's waiting to trade him based on who is available for us to take.

decent insight?

he just painted a pretty picture of nothing and whatever agent said whatever about whatever is saying anything he can to be in the news.

he's an agent...they are slimier than ambulance chasing attorneys

nice source gantt

Just remember that the Panthers, by NFL bylaws is not allowed to talk to any team at any time about a trade until Peppers signs his tender. Peppers is the only one that can talk to other teams. It is an undisputed rule and the Panthers would not cross that line and risk the penalty. Trouble is that the other teams, NE in particular will not negotiate with a player/agent. It's kind of a Catch 22 at the moment, that's why nothing is happening, IMO...

I feel the same way. I want to believe this story and say yea this is gonna go smooth but IMO Peppers agent is playing in the big pool and is trying to swim with sledge hammers. Some things you cant push and bully your way in and out of and this is one of them. I think there is more stupid to come from there camp.

swimming with "sledge hammers" is tough for sure but when those guys have plausible ammo, nobody is gonna get far. Marty Hurney is not gonna get any farther than the Peppers camp when ...a 29 year old veteran who is not a vocal leader and is suspected of mailing it in at times who demands big money and wants to play in a scheme and at a position he has no experience at... is thrown in his face. As amazing as Julius is his status in the scenario we are all in with him is potentially worse than an unproven draft pick. Or at the very least that position is a plausible and potentially strong arguing position.

1) 29 years old is another way of saying "in his prime." 2) He was pretty vocal this year, regardless there is no requirement for every great player to be a vocal leader...teams are made of all sorts. 3) He's only suspected of mailing it in by fans...however, the people that actually watch and analyze tape (i.e. his teammates and coaches) say differently. 4) No, he has not demanded big money, actually he turned it down. Sure, he'll eventually get paid, but his actions prove it is about more than the money. 5) He wants to be primarily a pass rusher, which he has quite a bit of experience at. Too much is being made of the 3-4 OLB idea. He knows how to pass rush, no matter where he is coming from.

As for what the silence is saying, I think I'll listen to someone that is in the thick of how these things usually work. And just because WE don't hear anything, doesn't mean insiders do not (believe it or not, there are other sources of info than mainstream media).

So, based on what this agent says, I take it that he is not hearing anything in the press OR through inside channels. Think about it, if Carey wasn't hearing anything he liked, he would most likely be working phones and trying to generate interest with other teams...after all, the closer we get to the draft, the more he needs something to happen soon, otherwise Pep may be stuck here for at least one more year. So I do think something is going on. What exactly, I have no idea, but 2 weeks before the draft is not the time to sit idlely by if you are serious about moving a player but nothing currently looks promising.
