Coach Rivera said we're missing a scat back..

running the ball or returning? there may be a reason for the returning if he's hesitating..

he's already proven to be a quality RB, but fumbling has kept him off the field..

Either, just doesn't seem to have "it".

The real problem is whatever has turned Rivera off about him. Whatever it is.

I can't believe people are actually taking this seriously.

Of all the dumb stuff that people take seriously here, this one is actually somewhat interesting.

go back and see what he's done as a starter.. the dude is a solid RB. unfortunately, he can't hang onto the ball.

interesting to the point of debate? yes. worthy of taking serious? no

Disagree.

We don't have a true "change of pace" back on roster right now. Neither do we have a dangerous punt returner.

Both of those things would be very useful to have, and could be had in a single player.

I agree with your points here and I think it would be nice to have a change of pace back but I think there are about 5 things we need on D way before this. Plus a change of pace back, while great, isn't great enough to crack the carries of the primary two backs who don't get enough carries as it is. Waste of time IMO.

no one is forcing you to take part in the conversation and it most certainly isn't doing any harm.

a scat back like rivera is talking about (and i don't think this is something he is talking out of his ass about) isn't something you would have to give up a lot for.

are there 5 things we need on defense before we start adding a scat back? yep...but it doesn't hurt to talk about it and it doesn't have to be something that takes much attention at all from improving the defense. we are talking about a player we will most likely take no earlier than the 5th round, but probably 6th or 7th round or even udfa.

no one is considering it a priority. just another dimension to possibly add at some point to make the offense more potent than it already is.

oh...our primary backs get plenty of carries. they are effective in the role they play. we run the ball 30+ times a game and we split it between 3 guys. for 34 & 28 less carries means fresher legs late in the game.

the run game is fine. the number of carries is fine. the distribution is fine. adding a scat back won't effect too much, except adding more dimension. they will probably only see 5 carries a game if that and maybe some time on 3rd downs. we will probably run some more next year just because we'll do a better job of staying on the field and hopefully because we'll have better field position.

I guess so if yo put it that way. All the "best defense is a good offense" people might not see it that way though. In any case it would be a neat addition especially if the guy was a true return threat.

true. one thing i liked about this bailey guy is the impact he has on special teams. he's a decent return guy, but he's brilliant against the punt. he's a punt blocking phenom.

that would be a truly marketable skill. A guy that is not only a great returner but also doubles as a gunner or block specialist and can change the game without the ball as well. In that situation you have a real standout commodity to go after and we should make a move without question. I think it will have to be something really special to make a real difference.

i'm excited by the possibility that the current coaching staff is not interested in sitting back and accepting what they have, and is conscious of further improving an already dangerous offense. sproles is a ridiculously good weapon for NO, and is good use of a roster spot due to his versatility. fulfilling one or both return slots, a regular ST slot, and a 3RB slot with one guy sounds like something you should always be on the lookout for.

yep. much better than the "everythings fine. it is what it is" philosophy of that last coach.

Mike Goodson is done in Charlotte, he may be able to latch on somewhere else; but he will have to fix that little fumbilitis problem he has. James would be a great pick if he is there in the fourth, however he probably won't escape the middle of the third. Nonetheless, it is fun to think about a Newton, Williams, Stewart, and James running tandem.
