Coach Rivera said we're missing a scat back..

I am excited to hear that Rivera wants to add another dimension to the offense next year. Sproles was judged by many to be the best off season FA acqusition by any team last year. He added versitility to the offense as well as to special teams. Goodson, Palares, and AE are not the answer. Good returners have to have the ability to make the first person miss and the speed to not be caught from behind once they break free. If this players available, it will probably take our second pick to get him. Could be a small RB like James or a straight line WR or CB. Watch for the low 4.3 40's at the combine and make a list of those considered to go on the top 50. Improving STs and adding speed is critical to making the playoffs.

I've never seen anyone quicker.

actually late in the draft i would not be opposed to this.

i've got to admit most of it has to do with his punt blocking ability. if we can get him late in the draft...sure, why not. we need some help on special teams where ever we can and the dude is super fast when he's got the ball and just amazing to watch so then there's your bonus. he'd be a great late round utility and situational player.

pretty much the one thing this offense is missing completely is a sproles type back

Possession receiver - Legedu

Deep threat receiver - Smitty, LaFell, Gettis

Possession TE - Shockey

Deep threat TE - Olsen

Power back - Stewart

Vision/feature back - Williams

Scat back - ...

a scat back wouldn't have to be a big investment and he wouldn't have to be drafted early at all. he wouldn't even have to see the field often as an RB, esp. if the guy can be a special teams ace (like this rainey kid).

yes, most of attention needs to be paid on getting our defense so it doesn't suck quite so badly, but adding a scat back doesn't have to be a distraction.

the goal is to make this team as complete and as dangerous as possible. if adding someone like this is an easy fix, then why not do it?

i'm thinking we should focus on fixing the defense and stop investing so heavily in the running back position when we're not even fully utilizing the guys we have now but yeah what the hell do i know

you can do both... scat back isn't going to take a 1st round pick. round 5-7 = crapshoot

offensive game is changing. offenses are moving away from traditional concepts. a scat back is just another way to force the defense to focus on more than they wish to handle at one time..

All signs point to Rainey being a middle round pick. If we could somehow get our hands on him, :drool5:.

As a student at an SEC school myself, I've watched him year in and year out, and like I said I've never seen anyone more explosive and lightning quick. The dude could be a steal for whoever picks him up. Not only good as a change of pace on offense, but could serve as a stud KR, PR, and kick blocker.
