Colts clean house: Polians are out

To see some context added to the behind the scenes is good and spells out whats really at play.

For some to minimize what he has done or dismiss his football iq is a bit foolhardy.

Polian is arguably the most overrated GM in any sport. Besides walking ass backwards into the Manning pick, his resume has been embarrassing since the early 2000s, as demonstrated by the dumpster fire that was the Colts this year sans Manning.

I mean this is atrocious:

2005 29 Marlin Jackson CB Michigan

2006 30 Joseph Addai RB Louisiana State

2007 32 Anthony Gonzalez WR Ohio State

2008 — No Pick — — [18]

2009 27 Donald Brown RB Connecticut

2010 31 Jerry Hughes DE Texas Christian

2011 22 Anthony Castonzo OT Boston College

He did score with Manning. But..HE is the one who scored. Then he put just enough of some good parts around him.

I don't think the guy is a genius but he has done some amazing stuff as a GM. Buffalo Bills 4 straight Super Bowls anyone? Panthers one game away in their second year.

Colts.

Gotta give credit where credit is due.

sounds like he's getting the credit he deserves.

in fact he's just getting everything he deserves.

he might have been pretty good once upon a time but that means what exactly right now?

he's been coasting for a looooooong time on that crap.

How long did he have to find a successor to Peyton Manning? He sat on that for too long. He got a superbowl run out of it, a lot of wins, but now its time to start over again. Had he found a capable backup in the 13 years he had to do it, he'd probably still have a job right now.

Problem in Indy was that Polian reached too far into the org and Irsay most likely wanted his team back.

It happened here with Richardson. Polian is actually a tremendous person and a stand up guy but he's always been a GM that really wanted to be an owner deep down imho. Being good family friends, I have the up most respect for him but that was a tough situation the past few years. The fans really didn't like how he tried replace himself with Chris...pretty much trying to gain more say into FO & personnel decisions than Irsay himself.

The Polians will still be all over. You got the young son in Stanford trying to become a solid assistant coach, Chris will still have a future in the NFL, Bill will be on ESPN (probably live back at his place in Charlotte more)...and Luck will probably end up the Colts QB with Irsay becoming an Owner/GM land Manning being groomed into a Elway-esque managerial position in Indy.

That's what I've heard so far...(oh and that Manning is most likely done playing in the league)

So 10 years of playoffs is coasting? Sign me up. Hurney would be doing what then?

if you aren't doing anything to improve the team and you are relying on the best/smartest QB to ever play the game that acts as his own offensive coordinator...then yeah, he's been coasting, esp. the past 5 years.

oh...that genius gave a surefire, but still 35 year old QB with 2 neck surgeries in 2 years with another one around the corner a 5 year $90mil contract of which he earned the first $23mil doing nothing.

did he not know it was likely for peyton to have that 3rd surgery? did he not check out the possibility that peyton might not recover from it? you thihnk he was surprised by any of this? if he was surprised and didn't know it was possibile then he's a fool. if he knew that this was likely and he did it anyway...he's still a fool.

send the man to canton.

Polian could have very well did some scorched earth here knowing he was gone at the endof the year. He leaves them with the #1 pick much the way he started. Never mind trading Faulk and getting Edgerrin James when Ricky Wiliams was en vouge.

I would argue that this could also be as much Mannings fault as Bills. You think Peyton wants the heir apparent looking over his shoulder? Who calls the plays on offesnse? The whole team knew where the leverage was. Eggs in one basket and all.

If Luck is as good as everyone thinks thats back to back once in a lifetime franchise qb's. Bad Bill Polian. Bad.
