A team has asked permission to interview Chud.

how come nobody never picks up Greenbays OC? Hell Rodgers is playing crazy good. BS

part of it is because there's a frenzy to get good head coaches as soon as the season is over and the packers have been in the playoffs like 3 years in a row, where it's a little complicated to get an interview with an assistant granted by that team.

Teams may not interview assistants from another team for either a lateral move or a head coaching opportunity during the season. The lone exception to this rule comes when teams want to interview assistants for head coaching jobs while the current team is in the playoffs. As there is an urgency to hire new head coaches for some non-playoff teams, the NFL does allow teams to request permission to interview a postseason participant's assistants during the wild card week for teams who have the bye that week. They can also request permission to do so during the first week of Super Bowl preparations as long as there is a two-week break between the conference championships and the Super Bowl. The team only has one chance to talk to the assistant coach, once permission is granted, before the coach's team is eliminated from the playoffs. link

In Philbin's case I don't think he was that in demand at the end of the '09 season and in '10 you wouldn't have gotten a chance to talk to him until after conference championship weekend. Now that Green Bay is 1st seed this year people might be able to get a hold of him while the Packers are resting.

This all depends on Chud. If he wants to be a head coach there is no stopping him. Just a fact of the game. One thing we do have going for us though is that we have a good amount of play makers and he may not want to give that up. Head coaching jobs come open every year but a great QB with loads of talent around him does not.

The only realistic shots we have of keeping him are:

1. The Jags (and any other teams who may interview him) simply decide to hire someone else.

2. Chud decides that, with Cam at QB, he'll likely be a candidate again next offseason and could be THE hot coordinator and have his pick of teams and make more money.

I don't think us giving him more money will do the trick. It might help to some degree, but this isn't all about money. Still, I think the best shot we have is if whoever interviews him simply decides to go in another direction.

Additionally, with both the Saints and Packers, the head coaches also essentially act as the Offensive Coordinator and are viewed as the real brains behind their operations.

There could be some much more attractive head coaching options next year. The head coaching vacancies this year are total rebuild jobs. STL, JAX, TB, MIA all need total overhauls. KC, not a total rebuild, looks like they are going with Crennel, a good move on their part.

Wouldn't it be funny if SD fired Norv Turner, they hire Chudzinski, and Turner becomes OC in Carolina?

Jacksonville is a terrible job right now. If his only goal is to be a head coach no matter what the job is then he will take it.

I think he waits for a better opportunity. St. Louis is a better place than Jax right now but I think they want an established coach.

I Indy comes open and they want Chud that would be the perfect fit for him

Jaguars are now interviewing/contacting...

Broncos OC Mike McCoy

Patriots OC Bill O'Brien

Panthers OC Rob Chudzinski

Jets OC Brian Schottenheimer

Falcons OC Mike Mularkey

I have a feeling Mularkey gets the job. Either him or Schottenheimer because of experience. Chud is the least experienced on that list and has the least impressive record TBH.

Also it would be fuging awesome for the Falcons to lose the only good coach they have.
