Quinn, Edwards on trading block

I think that "drops" stat is a bit misleading as not every incomplete pass is considered a drop. A high thrown ball to Smitty might result in a catch where Edwards it doesn't, but still doesn't get counted as a drop. I saw a site that listed percentage of catches for each ball thrown. Edwards had by far the worst of all the top receivers. I'm going to see if I can dig it up.

Yeah Edwards is a premium receiver in this league - he gets open pretty much every play. The drops are an issue, but they're not a huge concern to be honest.

Considering we are a run first team and most of the time we throw is on 3rd down the drops are a huge concern for me. I'd much rather have a player with few drops and 10YPC as our #2 WR, than someone with 15YPC that constantly stalls drives by dropping passes.

2008

Edwards, Thrown to: 138 - Catches: 55 - Percentage: 39%

Smitty, Thrown to: 129 - Catches: 78 - Percentage: 60%

So for the same number of balls thrown in his direction, Smitty would catch over 50% more than Edwards. And Smitty isnt even at the top as far as % goes. Boldin is at 70%.

AFA Quinn goes, if he was here there would be a great outcry on the huddle after his first INT. He wouldn't get a fair chance here...Panthers fans don't want to let loose of the love/hate relationship they have with the good 'ol boy QB because he took us to the Super Bowl six seasons ago.

If you mean a fair chance from the team itself, I have no idea. I would hope they will always do what they think is best for the team, taking every single factor of a decision into account. I think sometimes when they make decisions, people think it is all loyalty based when it may simply be a case of their considering more than just what fans think are obvious factors when they make a decision.

As far as fans go, I don't think that's the case at all judging from the venom against Jake I have seen this offseason on the Panthers board.

If we believe the Glazer report (I think Glazer is pretty much always right and if he isn't it is likely due to his getting info he thought was right and it didn't work out because he doesn't pull ish out of his backside IMO, so I do believe it) that they did have interest in Cassel then backed off when they got the contract requirements, it means Fox isn't totally resistant do doing such a thing in general, even this year when they have bigger fish to fry. Therefore, if they don't do this, one could also possibly conclude in part that Fox hasn't heard good things from Davidson. (I would say Weis, but it is well known that Weis pimped Quinn a bunch). Quinn hasn't struck me as a big downfield type passer, but then again, Cassel wasn't very accurate downfield last year either (though I think he may have a better arm than Quinn's). Who knows?

Interesting note: I don't hear either of the Browns two QBs whining to the press about their HC not wanting them though... :D

I expect the anti-Jake venom will be a thing of the past once camp opens. If not then, surely by the first game. First time someone reports from camp that Jake looked great, all will be forgiven.
