Bananas have been associated with blacks as a put down for quite sometime. It's the "monkey" factor. I can see where some people could be offended by the photo.

that's why stereotypes are so stupid. When I was a kid I had a white friend who looked more like a monkey than any of my black friends and he had an afro...

Not really. Plantains and bananas are two different things, and both are grown and eaten throughout Latin America.
