I'm liking Devon Still, DT, Penn State more and more every day

You're talking about 2003 with Buffalo, but what about all his years with Kansas City since then where he was a very solid player. No, he wasn't a superstar, but he was quite solid. You can't just ignore that part of his career because it's inconvenient.

And if I remember correctly, one of the big problems he had at Buffalo was injuries, so I don't believe it was as simple as him just not being good enough.

The KC play was mentioned in which it was mediocre/slightly above average

He's an overall average player from an every down perspective; a strong guy for depth.

I'm personally not satisfied with another Damioen Lewis/Tyler/Ian Scott type guy. I've mentioned many times: If the opportunity presents us to upgrade; let's upgrade.

If we pick defense in Rd 1 (which I fully expect us to do)......I COMPLETELY trust Rivera's opinion and decision.

They guy flat out knows defense and has had top defenses everywhere he has coached.

Rivera has never had a strong voice in who his team drafts with Chicago/Philly/SD.. his first draft last season, I'd say he did a piss poor job at drafting. So to say, "I trust Rivera with who we draft on defense", I am not ready to say that yet.

Fua/McClain look underwhelming so far.

Hogan is yet to see any substantial action.

Lawrence Wilson sucked so bad, he was placed on the Practice Squad, and then released from the team for off-field issues.

Rivera's track record is no going well so far with defensive players.

I will say, I trust Hurney with his 1st round picks.. he has never busted on a 1st round selection. But, that has nothing to do with Rivera being a good talent evaluator. Rivera is a great defensive coach though.

You say KC was mentioned, but where? The only team you referenced in the post I quoted was Buffalo. And quite honestly, using his time in Buffalo as your big selling point leads to the impression that you are trying too hard to sell the player you want. As for his time at KC, he was solid...which is nowhere near mediocre. He's just fine as a starter whose main job is to play the run and help plug the middle. Really the only question is how well he comes back from his injury, but by most accounts, he should be ready.

As for Still, I'd be fine with him in the second half of the first, but I'm not comfortable with him in the top ten at this point. Two things that I have heard about him that are concerning are that he has had some injury problems and has been an underachiever until this year. While it may just be that he is finally putting the pieces together, it is also very possible that he is going all out just to get drafted high and will go back to his underperforming ways. Now before you get all hot and flip out about this, I want to be clear in that I am just starting to research him. But as of right now, there are red flags that need to be answered first.

Fua and McClain looked like rookies that were forced into a starter role before they were ready. So I think the jury is still out on how effective those picks will be.

Hogan was drafted for next year. So again, he's a wait and see guy.

Really, the only draft pick I question is Zack Williams. For the most part, I think they were all decent risks were we took them.

With that said, I agree that we haven't seen enough of Rivera's drafts to feel completely comfortable with who he brings in. However, the one thing that does give me hope, though, is the amount of research they put into Cam (and to a lesser extent, Hogan). So if nothing else, I think he will be very thorough in researching the players he wants...particularly high round picks.
