I'm liking Devon Still, DT, Penn State more and more every day

If we were able to pull off a trade like the Bengals trade scenario in the other thread, and are picking in the area of 19 or 20 I'd be ok with giving Still a look, especially if the value isn't there at CB. But CB is a much bigger need in my opinion than DT right now.

The more i read about/watch Still the more I i think there's a high possibility he could be our guy regardless of where we pick for a few reasons.

- We need an infusion of talent at the position. When is the last time we added top tier talent at the position? For years we have added journey men, other teams cuts, and third round picks. Yes i know that doesnt preclude a player from being good but we need to add a player were we can say "he is the best at his position" i'm sorry but Edwards is not the answer.

- He's actually worth the pick the talent and production is there, he's the best player at his position and it isnt even close according to many. He can rush the passer and play the run and play either Dt position so he offers some scheme flexibility. 55 tackles with 17 tackles for a loss(eye popping), 4.5 sacks, a pass batted away and a forced fumble for the season, and he's produced ever year.

- His stock will go up, when teams get to break down game tape. The two positions that scouts say you can only evaluate with tape are Dt and Ol.

Still has moved himself up quite a bit lately, he's neck and neck with Coples as the best Dline prospect in the draft and they are considered the two best DT's in the draft by a few sites that have moved Coples to DT in their rankings.

Yes, Still has moved himself up into a top 10 ranking along with Coples. If the team want's to take Still or Coples at DT then they will have to do so at 9th or 10th. They aren't falling much further then that unless they have horrible combines.

I disagree, we grossly overpaid Kemo but he did his job well. He didn't move, he took double teams against the run and freed up Beason and Co to make the tackles that look pretty on stat sheets. Kemo was here to take up space and hold the point, that was it.

If there was a Dareus or Fairley type of DT in this draft I'd be more willing to take DT early, but we just drafted two guys last April in the third round. One was playing pretty well, the other not so much. We have also picked up some young guys who have stepped up and played quite well given the circumstances AND we get Edwards back. I just do not see DT as a real need and Rivera's comments suggest he feels the same.

CB is a glaring need and any of the top CB's look like huge upgrades over Munnerlyn and Butler, but we don't know what the staff thinks about Hogan, who was rated as one of the top cover CB's in the draft last year. Kirkpatrick is also a PR, if I'm not mistaken and that has to have quite a bit of appeal as well. I think Kirkpatrick would fit well here with his size, physical play and man coverage skills. His ball skills and speed are unquestioned.

OLB right now isn't a fit in terms of value vs pick, unless we trade back but I'm not assuming such. Zach Brown looks like a very good OLB, but Senn has played well. TD is one of my favorite Panthers of all time, BUT he simply can't be counted on.

I agree about not drafting for depth, but it pains me to admit that I agreed with what Kiper Jr said Saturday about us kind of being in no man's land. We don't really need a WR, but you could make a case for Blackmon if, HUGE IF, he should slip, but what about Alshon Jeffrey and Michael Floyd? Both are seen as #1 WR's.

I'm not on a bandwagon yet and I'm trying to keep all options open, especially considering how off the mark I was last year. It's clear our philosophy has changed some. The Bowl Games, Senior Bowl, Junior declarations and Combine will help to sort a lot of this out. For example, Zach Brown was said to run a 4.28 40 last season, if he does that in Indy his stock shoot's up a bit.

That's completely true, the Panther's have played themselves out of the running for the Top tier OT's and CB's. The only thing really worth drafting and not making a huge reach would be to take Coples or Still at DT, Decastro at G or make a play for Floyd or Jeffrey. Other then that everything else is a huge reach and unless a team falls in love with one of those players, trading back and getting the correct value for the trade back will be difficult in this particular draft outside of the top 7.

Just watched some highlights on Still and I like him a lot more than Coples. He has good hustle and if he is leader too than I would love to draft him. If we go DT I hope its him. Wouldn't mind Dre Kirkparick either.

Serious question here. If you watched Coples film as well, did you watch 2011 DE film or 2010 DT film for Coples? He's a better fit at DT, that's why I'm asking. If you watched his 2010 film, he had 15.5 TFL, 10 sacks and over 50 tackles earning him 2nd team AA in his first and only full college season at DT.

i love the idea of drafting coples to play DT. if you're worried about his size...a year or two in a pro conditioning program will get him the mass he needs without compromising his speed/agility. he's really the only Dline guy i can see making an immediate impact and him playing on the interior of the Dline would allow him to make an even bigger impact.

Yeah, I only watched some 2011 stuff. Ill look back for some 2010 when I guess he earned his hype. Might change my opinion.
